‘The Challenge’: Wes Bergmann Said Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio and Jay Starrett Never Discussed Morgan Willett on ‘Total Madness’
The Challenge: Total Madness is already getting interesting. While some rookie players are seriously proving they have what it takes to take out the veterans, a few of the Challenge greats are teaming up as well. So far, we know Wes Bergmann and Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio planned to work together to get to the end. And no one expected the unlikely duo to team up, as they’ve always worked against each other in the past.
Devenanzio is one of the most infamous players on The Challenge. He’s won a number of times and participated in numerous finals. But this season, he shares a commonality with Survivor star Jay Starrett. Devenanzio is currently dating Morgan Willett, Starrett’s ex. But Bergmann claims the two of them never even mentioned it to each other on the show.

Starrett and Willett have a wild past, as a lot of their relationship played out on reality TV. According to Heavy, Starrett and Willett started dating in 2018 — but Willett allegedly ghosted Starrett. Then, Willett appeared on Ex on the Beach 2 — and Starrett came on as the ex. They reconciled their differences on the show, but it all came crashing down once Willett went to film The Challenge: War of the Worlds.
Willett met Devenanzio while on The Challenge, and Starrett accused her of cheating during their relationship. Willett denies the allegations, though she admits something was going on that was more than friendly. And it seems a kiss did take place between Willett and Devenanzio.
“The kind of odd thing about all that is obviously when we got off The Challenge I came home. I talked to Jay. We decided to be just friends. We were on good terms,” she said on the Watch With Us podcast. “Later on, he asked me about Johnny and I owned it. I was like, ‘You know what, I’ll be real. I’ve been seeing him. This happened,’ blah, blah, blah, and he was fine with it.”

We’re not sure what exactly went on between Willett and Devenanzio — but it seems Willett owned up to having feelings, kissing Devenanzio, and pursuing that relationship. “I’m very happy where I am in my life, and at the end of the day I did things wrong, and I regret a lot of my actions. … Obviously we’re taking it day by day,” she said back in April 2019 on the Watch With Us podcast, Us Weekly reports.
Willett’s gotten a lot of hate from reality TV fans for the relationship, unfortunately. But she’s willing to stand up for herself against the hate.
“I think what a lot of people don’t realize is we traveled the world, just him and I, for two weeks,” she said on the podcast. “So whenever you do that, you get really close with someone. You get to know them on a more personal level, and I will also say it was so refreshing to get to know a person not in the reality TV world.”

So, with Devenanzio and Starrett on the same season, did Willet ever come up in discussion? Bergmann said on the Bachelor Party podcast the two actually never spoke of it.
“What it boils down to is, MTV can’t show a storyline without there being footage to talk about. I think that Jay and Bananas had some sort of an understanding, and honestly, I think it was unspoken,” Bergmann noted. “They just didn’t talk about it in interviews. If it was ever even remotely broached, they would leave the room. There wasn’t really any footage of people really talking about it. So, I think that they had chosen to kind of leave it off the radar.”
Bergmann also said that despite any history Devenanzio has or had with Starrett, he would’ve gone after Starrett anyway, as Devenanzio is a “templated player” who always goes after the rookies. So any feuding that may have gone on between them on the show wasn’t about Willett at all.
