‘The Challenge’: What Really Happened With Cara Maria Sorbello and Ex-Boyfriend Abram Boise?
The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2 is officially over, and fans are still reeling from the results. When the season started, it was the U.S. team versus the U.K., and the U.S. team had a strong alliance led by Challenge veteran Cara Maria Sorbello and her boyfriend, Paulie Calafiore. Sadly, the U.S. team lost to the U.K., and Sorbello didn’t gain many fans as a result of her on-screen behavior with Calafiore.
Aside from War of the Worlds 2, Sorbello has always been a polarizing Challenge player. And many can’t forget when she was dating fellow game veteran Abram Boise. After years of ups and downs between the two of them, they ultimately called it quits, and they’ve both happily moved on. But what really went on between them? Here’s what we know.
Cara Maria Sorbello had major ups and downs with Abram Boise throughout their relationship
We’ve been watching Sorbello play (and win) on The Challenge for nearly a decade. And we’ll never forget her tumultuous relationship with Boise, who also proved to be a huge physical threat in the game. Us Weekly reminds us Boise and Sorbello started dating in 2010 during the Cutthroat season of The Challenge — and it certainly wasn’t smooth sailing from there.
Boise and Sorbello appeared to be the perfect misfit match, and Heavy notes Sorbello even moved from Massachusetts to Montana to be with Boise. But in 2011, the two broke up. And Us Weekly notes this was because of an incident that involved Boise getting arrested for public urination.
The two got back together, of course. And they had quite a few interesting things to say about their relationship. As Boise told MTV, “Cara Maria is like a cat. When you try to chase a cat it just runs away and then you turn around and go sit down and the cat shows back up at your leg.”
Sorbello also added her opinion. “He’s so passionate and so intense that sometimes you just need to get away. He’s just got an animal inside him.”
They had a major blowup when Sorbello cheated on Boise on ‘The Challenge’
Sorbello and Boise’s relationship always seemed a bit on edge, and it may have been Sorbello’s actions during Battle of the Bloodlines in 2016 that collapsed everything completely.
Heavy reports Sorbello kissed fellow contestant Thomas Buell while on the show. And when another contestant had to leave due to medical concerns, Boise was brought on to replace him, shocking Sorbello. Eventually, Boise learns of the cheating scandal and requests that Sorbello work against Buell in The Challenge. And Sorbello apologized profusely both to Boise and to her fans on Twitter for her actions.
On Battle of the Bloodlines, Sorbello told her cousin how she’s really feeling about her relationship with Boise, too. Jezebel reports she said, “I just don’t want to be with him anymore. I was gonna leave him when I got home from this. We’ve broken up so many times. It’s just an unhealthy relationship.”
Sorbello and Boise appeared to break up post-Bloodlines, too.
They’ve both moved on completely
It doesn’t look Challenge fans will ever see a reunion between Boise and Sorbello. Sorbello appears to be happy with Calafiore (though fans are wondering if they’ve since gone their separate ways after War of the Worlds 2). And Boise proposed to his partner, Rachel Missie, in February 2019.
“I could not be more honored that @rachelmissie has agreed to be my wife in this life,” Boise captioned his Instagram post from Feb. 14. “Joy. Sheer joy. Much love, be well.”
As for if Boise will ever rejoin the Challenge cast, we’re not sure. It looks like Sorbello, who is known for still participating in the show, is taking a break herself. If another Battle of the Exes season ever occurs, it’d be interesting to see if both parties would take part.
