‘The Circle’ Season 4 started with a ranking
Catfishing is a risky strategy on The Circle. You have to keep track of your lies and know your character well, but people still choose to do it.
In the first episode, John Franklin introduced himself as a content creator from New Jersey. He decided to play as his mom, Carol. “My mom is an incredibly smart, strong, independent woman,” he said. “And I know everything about her.” He started appealing to the other players by taking on the role of the “mom” of the group.
Parker Abbott had a similar strategy. The student didn’t think a sorority girl would be seen as trustworthy. So she played as her father, Paul, who is married and a marriage therapist.
The cast asked each other questions to get to know each other. One of the questions was, what would the title of your memoir be? Parker admitted to not knowing what a memoir was, which made the other players suspicious.
The episode ended with the players ranking each other. Frank Grimsley was first, Carol was second, Crissa Jackson was third, Alyssa Ljub was fourth, Josh “Bru” Brubaker was fifth, Yu Ling Wu was sixth, and Paul was seventh.
Paul gets blocked from ‘The Circle’
The second episode started with Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) joining the show by playing as Jared, a children’s author. That also meant influencers Frank and Carol had to block someone.
Before that, Parker started a private chat with Carol as Paul to get to know her better. They talked about their family catfishing as parents. Parker’s strategy didn’t work.
“I have a feeling that, like…there’s a potential like daughters around the same age as myself and my sister,” John said. “That leads me to believe Parker, who he mentions…maybe Parker is the one running this game because she’s studying communications. She could be doing the exact same thing that I’m doing. We’re playing a very similar game now. Maybe there are more similarities on the surface than I realized.”
John and Frank made sure to keep their own allies and chose to block Paul later in the episode. “I knew it,” Parker said. “You know what? That’s really sucky because I thought Carol and I had a good conversation.”
The episode ended with Parker being given a chance to meet one of the other players before she left.
