Simone spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet by phone about the new film. We’ll have more with the cast and creators of The Craft: Legacy here on Showbiz Cheat Sheet. The film premieres on premium VOD Oct. 28.

Lovie Simone plays Tabby in ‘The Craft: Legacy’

Like in the 1996 The Craft, each of the four witches in the circle represent a direction – north, south, east or west – and a corresponding natural element.

“Tabby is a witch whose element is fire,” Simone said. “She’s very wise because of her family being involved in witchcraft. So she kind of has a knowing of that whole scheme and she is the mom friend of the coven. She brings that comfort as well as from time to time I don’t want to say criticism, but she just can show a little tough love sometimes.”

Simone further explained what a mom friend means.

A mom friend is just the friend that’s really in tune with her empathic waves. She is very caring. She’s very mature. She’s the friend who values the collective group so she knows that everybody in the group has what they bring to the table and it makes the energy what it is. So Tabby is that friend that’s like, ‘Hey guys, we need to chill’ or ‘Guys, we should do this.’ She brings people together and I feel like she was a part of the reason why Lili (Spaeny) did join the coven. I feel like Tabby gave her a feeling of safety and we’re not going to judge you here.

‘The Craft: Legacy’ star Lovie Simone is a practicing witch

Simone said she related to Tabby because she practices witchcraft in real life. Witchcraft also runs in her family.

“I’m into witchcraft and my family, although they might not be into witchraft like they say they are, they are witches,” Simon said. “My mom has dreams and I did feel a little bit of similarities with me and Tabby being mature and having the half feminine, half masculine blend. Just also being a mom friend, I think a lot of Tabby’s characteristics were like mine. So I wanted to dive more into her while diving more into myself in turn.”

A day in the life of a real witch

In The Craft: Legacy, witchcraft can cast spells on classmates or manifest visible apparitions. Simone explained how actual witchcraft practice looks.

“I think witchcraft is a form of accountable healing,” Simone said. “So for me, witchcraft is making teas or making myself food or meditating or movement meditation like yoga. That’s kind of how I incorporate it. My sister also reads Tarot so from time to time I’ll try to get a Tarot reading from her or what not. So I just think witchcraft is incorporated in a lot of life that people should be more open to.”

Lovie Simone taught her ‘The Craft: Legacy’ co-stars some real witchcraft

To help get in the spirit of The Craft: Legacy, Simone led the cast in some of her own practices.

We did Full Moon/New Moon rituals. We also did yoga together. We cooked together which is a form of witchcraft, I believe. I made my girls some teas. It’s more so a lifestyle so it’s not really like oh here, this is what we’re going to do and I’m going to teach you guys this. It’s more so just friends hanging out like in The Craft. Like yeah, this is what we do after school. Yeah, this is what we do after set. This is what we do when we’re going to bed or whatever, so it definitely reflected well.
