‘The Crown’: Dominic West Said He’d ‘Discourage’ His Kids to Act Before His Son Was Cast
The Crown cast is welcoming Senan West as its new Prince William. He is the son of Dominic West, and he previously shared his opinion of his kids becoming actors.
‘The Crown’ waited to cast Prince William
The main cast of season 5 was already announced. The roles went to Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, and Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major.
That announcement didn’t include a young Prince William. But The Daily Mail reported the description of the role was released in search of an actor.
The show looked for “A boy aged between 13 and 15 years old to play 13-year-old Prince William in the next series… talented, intelligent and sensitive boy who can rise to the challenge of playing this famous character alongside leading British acting talent.”
Why was it taking longer to find the right prince? “We are well into the process, and all is well. Child casting in general just takes longer,” a spokesperson from Netflix said. The search is now over.
Who is playing Prince William in season 5?
The search for a young Prince William is over! Variety reports West’s son, Senan, is playing the role.
The actor is 13 years old, and this will be his first role. Senan reportedly got the part through his audition tape. The actual prince was 15 years old when his mother died in a car accident. It’s unclear when her death will take place in the show.
However, season 4 left off before the couple officially divorced. That public separation will most likely take up a lot of time in the new season.
It doesn’t look like the role of Harry has been filled. The actual princes are just two years apart, so a younger actor close in age will need to fill it.

Fans will still have to be patient to see the season. The Crown will be released in November 2022. Staunton revealed in a video that they began filming.
West is currently married to Catherine Fitzgerald, and they share four children Martha, Senan, Francis, and Dora. The actor previously said he didn’t want his children to act.
“I’d discourage my children from becoming an actor but that won’t make a difference,” he told BANG Showbiz. “My daughter is mad keen on it but I’m trying to convince her to become a scientist or engineer but I don’t think it’s going to work. I’m not against acting. As a career I just think we need more scientists and engineers. Everyone wants to be an actor these days.”
It looks like West is already losing that fight. His daughter, Martha, has also started acting and was in the BBC series The Pursuit Of Love.
