‘The Crown’: Josh O’Connor Has to Beat 1 of the Year’s Most Talked About Performances to Take Home His First Emmy
The Crown stars are once again part of the Emmy race. The Crown’s Josh O’Connor could take an award home but there is one actor that could be standing in his way.
Josh O’Connor is nominated for an Emmy for ‘The Crown’
O’Connor joined the cast of The Crown for season 4. He played an older Prince Charles in season 3 and the latest season showed the family trying to get him married to someone worthy of the thrown.
This year his performance is being recognized by being nominated for an Emmy in the Lead Actor in a Drama category. The other nominees are Billy Porter for Pose, Regé-Jean Page for Bridgerton, Jonathan Majors for Lovecraft Country, Sterling K. Brown for This Is Us, and Matthew Rhys for Perry Mason.
There are impressive nominees in the category. But there was one that got the same amount of attention if not more than O’Connor.

Bridgerton became a huge hit after it was released on Netflix. The first season focused on the love story between Simon Basset (Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor). Fans fell in love with Page in the process and sadly, he won’t be returning for season 2. Page shared his reaction to the nominations.
“It’s a joy to be seen,” the actor said on Instagram, according to Us Weekly. “12 @televisionacad Emmy nominations for the dazzling group of artists @bridgertonnetflix. Another for dreamy lovers in full technicolour, cause they just don’t make ‘em like @sylvieslove anymore. And 1 happy, tired boy who gets to be a part of it all. Thank you x.”
Fans would certainly be rooting for Page given they enjoyed his character. However, some people might not root for him if they’re still sour on Page not returning for season 2.
In the end, the results are up to the academy and it’s harder to predict what they’ll go for since this is Bridgerton’s first year at the Emmys. This is where O’Connor has an advantage.
The Emmys favored ‘The Crown’ in the past
The Crown has already won 14 Primetime Emmys. Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth II) and John Lithgow (Winston Churchill) won for their performances. It has also won for casting, cinematography, editing, costumes, production design, and directing.
So obviously the academy loves The Crown. They were also fond of some of the performances.
It looks like O’Connor has history on his side. But Page has a lot of buzz around him and fans will be tuning into the Emmys to see if he’ll win.
