‘The Crown’: Why the Role of Prince William Hasn’t Been Cast Yet
Many important roles for The Crown Season 5 have been filled. But Prince William hasn’t been announced. This is the reason why it’s taking a little longer to cast the very important royal family member.
Who previously played Prince William on ‘The Crown’?
Season 4 showed Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) already in love with Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell). But he later meets Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) and feels the pressure to get married, so he marries her.
The season moves through the years and by the end of it, they already have their two sons Prince William and Prince Harry (Arran Tinker). There were two babies who played baby Prince William. Then the prince was played by Lucas Barber-Grant later. The young actor hasn’t played any other roles.
The season ends with Diana and Charles basically separated, but technically married. It’s clear that she’s hoping to divorce by the end of the season. Season 5 will take place in the ’90s covering their divorce and her death. Their children will be teenagers.
Why the role of Prince William hasn’t been cast yet
The Crown announced most of the important roles for next season. But two important names are missing from the list which is Prince William and Prince Harry. They will be part of the season, but the roles haven’t been cast yet.
The Daily Mail claimed the actor for Prince William should be, “A boy aged between 13 and 15 years old to play 13-year-old Prince William in the next series… talented, intelligent and sensitive boy who can rise to the challenge of playing this famous character alongside leading British acting talent.”
A spokesperson for Netflix addressed the role not being filled. “We are well into the process and all is well. Child casting in general just takes longer,” the person claimed.
A source claims there is another reason why this process has taken this long. “A lot of parents would think twice before letting their son appear in such a drama,” an insider said. “It’s going to be a harrowing role that will create a major backlash.”
Who is playing Princess Diana and Prince Charles in ‘The Crown’ Season 5?
Netflix already announced the parents of the young prince. Elizabeth Debicki is playing the more mature Princess Diana. Dominic West is playing Prince Charles. Olivia Williams is taking over the role of Camilla Parker Bowles.
Corrin revealed how she feels passing the role of Princess Diana on to someone else. “I feel so happy to have done the arc of her life that I did, but for me it feels like a very closed chapter,” Corrin told The New York Times. “I went into it knowing I wouldn’t continue.”
