The Crown will be ending with season 6. The show finally introduced Princess Diana in season 4, but will she be in the last season? This is the given timeline of the end of the show.

‘The Crown’ Season 4 showed Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage

Season 4 started with Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) feeling the pressure to find a nice woman to marry. This was a struggle given that he was in love with Camilla Parker Bowles (Emerald Fennell), married to someone else.

The prince eventually gives in, and he proposes to Princess Diana (Emma Corrin). It doesn’t take long for the problems in their relationship to pop up.

At this point, the princess is just 19 years old. The season started in 1979 and ended in 1990. Season 5 will most likely cover the divorce.

Elizabeth Debicki will be Princess Diana in season 5 and 6

The cast is changed once again to reflect the time in the show. Elizabeth Debicki will play the more mature version of the princess in seasons 5 and 6. The actor was previously in The Night Manager, The Kettering Incident, Widows, and more.

Princess Diana and Prince Charles officially separated in 1992. Their separation lasted four years before they officially divorced. Season 5 will cover the early 1990s, according to Variety.

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one,” Debicki said in a statement.

That isn’t the only change for the next season. Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip, Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret in the season.

The Crown creator, Peter Morgan later announced there will be a sixth season of the show. He also talked about the timeline of the season.

“As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story, we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” he said, according to Deadline

“To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day — it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail,” he added. Season 6 will probably start in the later 1990s and end in the early 2000s.

Princess Diana died in 1997, so it’s possible fans will see her at the beginning of the last season. Fans can then see the royals react to her death. However, the details of the last season, besides its ending in the early 2000s, have yet to be confirmed.
