What is ‘The Cuphead Show’ about?

Like the video game, The Cuphead Show follows an anthropomorphic mug named Cuphead and his brother, Mugman, who often get themselves into trouble. The cartoon‘s animation style and music take inspiration from 1930s Fleischer cartoons, giving viewers a taste of vintage charm.

Here’s the synopsis for The Cuphead Show, per a Netflix blog post:

The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman. Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs. The new series will expand on the characters and world of Cuphead.

‘The Cuphead Show’ trailer

Netflix’s first trailer for The Cuphead Show, as seen above, opens with Cuphead telling Mugman that they need “fun and adventure.” Of course, their adventures usually end in disaster, and that’s no different here. Cuphead and Mugman stumble on the mysterious Carnevil, which looks more dangerous than fun. The brothers encounter a fire-breathing dragon, an angry-looking octopus, and a devilish animal.

‘The Cuphead Show’ release date

Netflix also included a release date at the end of the trailer. Surprise! It’s only a month away. The series will drop all of its episodes at once on Friday, Feb. 18.

There’s still some time to go until the premiere, but eager fans can start the fun now with a special adventure online. The Cuphead Show Countdown takes visitors through a series of daily challenges that unlock special rewards ahead of the show’s release. Along the way, Cuphead and Mugman will save the stolen souls of the guests at Carnevil.

“Hellooooo beautiful world! Cuphead here, and I’ve got Mugman with me,” the adventure’s description reads. “We just discovered a secret way to recover stolen souls from the Devil who is keeping our new show hostage. We need your help!”
