The Dropout shares the wild true story of Elizabeth Holmes. The Hulu limited series is based on the podcast of the same name, Decider reports, and it explores Holmes’ rise and fall.
In 2003, Holmes started the health technology company Theranos. Holmes hoped to make it big with one major invention: the Edison. The machine could allegedly run thousands of medical tests using just one drop of blood. Theranos received a $9 billion valuation by 2015, and Holmes received public accolades for her idea — but it was all a fake. The Edison didn’t work nearly as well as Holmes claimed it did. Her world — as well as the world of her boyfriend at the time, Sunny Balwani — came crashing down.
Currently, Holmes awaits sentencing for her crimes. And for those wanting to know her height, she’s reportedly 5 feet 6 inches tall, according to CelebHeightWiki.

Amanda Seyfried plays Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout — and she’s much shorter than Elizabeth Holmes. So, how tall is Amanda Seyfried? The actor is reportedly just 5 feet 3 inches tall, making her significantly shorter than Holmes.
Seyfried revealed her height when speaking to InStyle.co.uk about cutting her hair. “‘I just needed something fresh,” the actor stated. “I’m only 5 foot 3 inches, and my old hair dwarfed me.”
Amanda Seyfried factored her height into playing Holmes, too. “One of the things that I was actually a little bit worried about was my height because Elizabeth is taller and she appears taller, even though she’s hunched over a tiny, tiny bit; her posture is not perfect,” Seyfried told IndieWire, according to Yahoo. “And I did use that for when she’s walking. I’m just like, wouldn’t that be something that she paid more attention to? Or maybe that’s just her standing up straight? I thought, well, you know what I’m much shorter than her and that’s not going to matter. It has to be all the tricks she used, I’m using the same tricks. We’re both exploring that commanding presence.”
Amanda Seyfried’s voice is much different in ‘The Dropout’
Amanda Seyfried’s height is one of many differences between her and Elizabeth Holmes. To make herself more like Holmes for The Dropout, Seyfried worked on changing up her voice. Speaking to Elle, Seyfried explained how she thought of the voice as an “accent.”
“I worked with my voice coach to make it a safe space for me to explore the depth,” she said. “But I knew I was never going to get that low because I sit naturally a little above average on the scale of frequency. And so I was just going to do what’s deep for me and hope that the audience is already with me, because that’s episode 3, when she really starts trying it on. And yes, there are different levels depending on what she’s doing, and who she’s speaking to.”
