While Ashton Kutcher is known for his controversial romance to Demi Moore, he’s now happily married to Mila Kunis. The couple first worked together on That ’70s Show and found each other romantically much later. Now, they have kids and live a semi-private life. Though Kunis spilled about one unfortunate Valentine’s Day blunder when visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Here’s what Kunis shared, and what DeGeneres said about Kutcher’s “$10” gift to his wife.

Mila Kunis told Ellen DeGeneres about Ashton Kutcher’s Valentine’s Day blunder

Kunis and Kutcher seem like the perfect match. While it took them many years to get romantic, it’s clear they adore each other. And Kunis told Ellen DeGeneres a funny Valentine’s Day story while visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2019.

“I love my husband so, so, so, so much,” Kunis started. “So, it’s not — it’s the thought that counts, guys. And it’s such a beautiful thought.” She then explained that she liked to watch the birds outside of her window with their kids. And this gave Kutcher a fantastic idea for Valentine’s Day. He decided he’d get his wife a pair of lovebirds, which are a type of small parrot. Unfortunately, the birds weren’t all they were cracked up to be.

Kunis noted she took the birds to a “bird lady” that was recommended to her by DeGeneres, and the specialist gave her unfortunate news. “When we brought our little lovebirds in … she informed us that we, in fact, did not have lovebirds but instead have parakeets,” Kunis explained.

Kunis continued on with the story to DeGeneres and the audience. “They’re instead called ‘bungies’?” she questioned. And DeGeneres then called out Kutcher for not knowing the difference in lovebirds and parakeets based on price alone.

“They’re like, $10,” DeGeneres said. “I mean, lovebirds are more expensive.”

“Ashton literally thought … he called a Petco-like store, and they were like, ‘Yes, come in, we have lovebirds,'” Kunis added. “And so he walked in, and they’re like, ‘These are lovebirds.'”

“They lied to him and sold him lovebirds, and they were parakeets!” DeGeneres added.

Kunis concluded that now she has “two little parakeets” she still thinks are beautiful, “but they’re not lovebirds, guys. Because that’s not what lovebirds look like.”

While DeGeneres called out Kutcher for only spending a few bucks on some parakeets, Kunis found the story quite funny — and it’s clear Kutcher tried his best. As for their relationship in general, they seem to be very happy and in love. A source told People the couple have a very strong connection, too.

“Mila and Ashton have a very fulfilling life and love sharing the responsibilities of being parents,” a source told People. “Their children keep them busy and cause stress but they are both so well grounded in their relationship, it has done nothing but bring them closer together. They are very happy.”

We can’t forget how their relationship started, though. Kunis and Kutcher began their romance as a casual fling, but they both caught feelings. ““I was like, you know what, I actually care about you,” Kunis said on the WTF With Marc Macon podcast, according to People. “I don’t want to mess anything up so I’m just going to walk away before it becomes too much.”

It’s clear Kunis didn’t walk away. Now, she’ll have plenty more funny stories with Kutcher in the future!
