‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’: Kris Jenner Said Her Assistants Need to Answer Their Phones 24/7 to Work for Her
Those who’ve kept up with The Ellen DeGeneres Show know Ellen DeGeneres has found herself in hot water. Members of her staff are calling out the producers of the show for unfair behavior, and it’s falling on the comedian’s shoulders. Now, we’re looking back at old interviews — and her one with Kris Jenner gained a huge audience.
Jenner and her famous kids get plenty of backlash from the public. And Jenner explained on the talk show all of her needs and demands she expects from her assistants. Here’s what she said.
Kris Jenner has high standards for her assistants
Those familiar with the Kardashians know all about Jenner as the “mom-ager.” And not everyone is qualified to become Jenner’s assistant. She wants someone who’s willing to put in as much time and effort as possible, as she believes she can open opportunities up for her assistants that are incredibly worthwhile.
“And I think that given the opportunity, somebody could really learn a lot just being around me and the girls because it’s really nonstop, 24/7 brainstorming and creativity and just trying to get organized and really pack a lot into a day — being there nonstop with all engines blazing,” Jenner explained to The Huffington Post in 2018.
As for what Jenner looks for in an assistant, she’s all about the energy. “Like when you feel somebody’s energy that’s really important to me,” she explained. “Somebody who’s outgoing and kind and organized, and you know, I think just willing to do just about anything. No job is too big or too small.”
Jenner went on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ to talk about assistant qualifications
Not only has Jenner talked on her Instagram and to multiple publications about what she wants in an assistant, but she’s also discussed it with DeGeneres. The infamous celebrity stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in 2018 to talk about it.
“There really are no hours,” Jenner told DeGeneres regarding how much her assistants work. “You just have to be available 24/7, seven days a week, but I usually wouldn’t torture you on weekends.” Jenner then added that assistants need to be available “after hours” in case she texts and needs something.
Jenner then told a story of going to the grocery store a month ago just for avocados, but DeGeneres didn’t believe Jenner would go to the store for a simple task.
“Why wouldn’t you send your assistant for something like that?” DeGeneres asked.
“Because it was a Sunday,” Jenner noted.
“But they’re supposed to be available 24/7,” DeGeneres fought back.
“I know, and they didn’t answer the phone,” Jenner added. “That’s why I’m looking for a new assistant.”
Ellen DeGeneres has been called out for her alleged high demands as well
While DeGeneres poked fun at Jenner’s demands she puts on her assistants, it seems some of the talk show host’s staff aren’t pleased with how she’s treated them, either. Not only has production from her show gotten flack for unfair treatment, but DeGeneres herself is under fire.
Page Six reports DeGeneres allegedly had serious demands when she visited Australia’s Today show back in 2013. “[Ellen DeGeneres’] producers called us aside … and said, ‘Now, Neil, no one is to talk to Ellen. You don’t talk to her, you don’t approach her, you don’t look at her,'” former producer of the morning show, Neil Breen, said.
As for DeGeneres’ character, Breen continued that he never actually spoke with the comedian, so he’s unsure of what she’s really like. But he was put off from what he observed.
“I have no idea whether she’s a nice person or not, I wouldn’t have a clue,” Breen added. “But I can tell you the people who worked with her walked on eggshells the whole time, and the whole thing was totally bizarre.”
DeGeneres has since apologized for her production complaints. But we’ll have to wait and see if all can be forgiven. Either way, it seems she and Jenner might have more in common than fans originally thought.
