‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’: Offset Explained Why He Missed the First Birthdays of Some of His Children
Offset is in the news more than ever now that Cardi B is deciding to part ways with the rapper. The couple has a child together, Kulture, and we can’t forget that Offset has three other children from past relationships.
While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the past, Offset briefly talked about how he missed many of his kids’ first birthdays because of his troubling past spent in jail. Here’s what happened.
Offset has 4 children, 1 with Cardi B
Those who follow Cardi B know all about her daughter, Kulture. Currently, it seems Cardi B is trying to gain custody of the 2-year-old in the wake of her divorce. As for what Offset thinks, it seems he hasn’t yet made any comments about the impending legal breakup.
Aside from Kulture, Offset has three other kids. Jordan Cephus is Offset’s oldest child, Cosmopolitan reports. He’s 9 years old, and his mother, Justine Watson, sued Offset for child support in 2017. According to Watson, Offset “provided sporadic financial assistance” and “rarely contributed to medical expenses, education needs, and extracurricular activities.”
Offset’s second son, Kody, 4, was had with ex-girlfriend Oriel Jamie. While Kody’s often featured on Offset’s social media, there’s been plenty of drama surrounding the mother and child, as Jamie was upset Offset allegedly never introduced Cardi B to Kody prior to their engagement.
Finally, Offset’s other daughter, Kalea, is just 3, and the mother is Shya L’Amour. L’Amour took to Instagram to accuse Offset of never wanting to see Kalea. But she later admitted that Cardi B helped Offset grow into a better man and father.
Offset’s talked about his incarcerations in the past
Aside from drama with his children and past relationships, Offset’s also gotten into trouble with the law. Back in 2016, he even talked about the time he spent in jail back in 2015.
According to The Fader, Offset was arrested along with Takeoff and Quavo, the other members of the rap group Migos, for possession of cannabis, “possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, carrying a weapon in a school safety zone, and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.”
Prior to the 2015 incident, Offset spent nine months in jail in 2013. He also had a felony conviction prior. In 2015, he ultimately accepted a plea deal to get him out of jail.
“I was doing the right thing, helping my family, and supporting my family with the music,” Offset told The Fader regarding the time prior to his jail stint in 2015. “And for me to go back to jail, I was in there thinking like, ‘Damn, what did I do?’ And at first I was lost, because I ain’t had no understanding of how you can go from being on the top to right there in that situation so quick.”
He told Ellen DeGeneres he’s missed his kid’s first birthdays because of his past jail time
Back in 2019, Offset visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show. And he told DeGeneres that his time in jail caused him to miss some of his children’s birthdays.
“It’s cool to make mistakes,” Offset told DeGeneres. “Because my kids, I missed the first birthday of some of my kids due to incarcerations and being in trouble. And being caught up in the system. And I still don’t run away from it.”
He then explained that he also doesn’t know his father, and that makes him want to be a better man for his kids. “I have a father that I don’t know of,” Offset added. “He still runs away from it. I don’t get it. I’ve invited him on interviews and all type of TV just to get in contact. You know, he’s still dodging.” Offset said that he hopes he can help men understand their wrongdoings and “try to fix it” in the future.
“It’s never too late,” he noted. “You could be 30, your son could be 30 years old, you’ve never seen him. You should still try to communicate.”
No matter what happens with Offset and Cardi B, it looks like he’ll happily remain in Kulture’s life and do everything he can to be a great father to his kids.
