‘The Equalizer’: Queen Latifah Says McCall and Dante Definitely Have ‘Sexual Chemistry’
Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) and Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) don’t exactly see eye-to-eye on the CBS series The Equalizer. He’s a by-the-book detective, while she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make sure justice is served. But despite their differences, there’s a simmering attraction between the two characters. Fans can expect to see more of that tension in The Equalizer Season 2, the actors say.
Queen Latifah weighs in on Dante and McCall’s sexual tension
In a video recently shared on Twitter, Latifah weighed in on McCall and Dante’s will-they-or-won’t-they relationship.
“Dante and McCall have sexual chemistry,” the former Living Single star said. “And that just goes without saying. Let’s get that out of the way, period.”
But is there a future for the two together in season 2, which premieres Oct. 10 on CBS? Kittles said that was the “ultimate question,” noting that the two characters “gravitate toward each other.”
“There’s a mutual attraction. You know, I think there’s a physical attraction,” he added. “I think there’s a mental attraction.”
For her part, Latifah definitely thinks there’s potential for a romance. “They’re hot for each other, no question,” she said.
“He’s cute, he’s got a nice body. You know, he dresses really nice. He smells good,” she said. “I know you can’t smell him through television, but he smells good. She loves to flirt with him and he’s not afraid to flirt back.”
Queen Latifah and Tory Kittles agree on a possible name for the couple
Fans who are hoping for McCall and Dante to take their relationship to the next level already have a couple of ideas for what to call the couple: Dobyn or McCante.
Latifah and Kittles both agreed that McCante is the better moniker.
“Dobyn doesn’t sound good to me,” Latifah said. “That sounds like a hobbit. That sounds like somebody from The Shire.”
McCante, on the other hand, sounds like “picante” she said. “‘Picante’ is kind of hot,” she said. “I like that.”
“It sounds like a good tequila,” Kittles said.
There will be ‘sparks’ in ‘The Equalizer’ Season 2
In an interview with TV Insider, showrunner Terri Edda Miller promised that fans would see “sparks” between McCall and Dante in season 2. However, any path to a romantic relationship will definitely have its hurdles, especially with Dante having to decide how much of McCall’s righteous law-breaking he’s willing to tolerate.
“Dante has to decide where he truly stands,” showrunner Andrew W. Marlowe said. “And how far across the line he’s willing to go.”
“You have to keep watching the show to find out if they have a future together,” Latifah said.
The Equalizer Season 2 premieres Sunday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
