‘The Eternals’: Kit Harington Offers Marvel Fans A Concerning Update — ‘It’s Filmed… God Knows What’s Going On With It’
Kit Harington is set to make his big debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film The Eternals. The studio originally scheduled the movie to premiere in November, but that date was pushed back to next year due to the coronavirus pandemic. While fans are looking forward to Harington’s portrayal of Dane Whitman, a.k.a. Black Knight, the actor offered his followers a concerning update on where the project stands.
Marvel forced to delay multiple projects
Following the events in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans were looking forward to the start of Phase 4 of the MCU. The new chapter was supposed to kick off with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in May, but the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to that.
With Hollywood in shutdown mode, Marvel pushed back all of the premiere dates for Phase 4. This includes The Eternals, which is now due to hit theaters in February.
Fans were pretty disappointed by the news but Marvel really didn’t have a choice in the matter. Theaters around the world are still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and apart from a release on Disney+, there is nothing the studio can do about it.
The good news is that filming for The Eternals started last summer and finished before the pandemic hit. The bad news is that the movie still required plenty of post-production when businesses around the country began to shut down.
A lot of that work is being done from home, so there is no telling if filmmakers will be able to stay on schedule.
Kit Harington offers an update on ‘The Eternals’
Marvel has not said anything about where things stand on The Eternals. Luckily, pushing back the premiere date to February should give the crew plenty of time to finish the project.
That said, Harington’s recent interview has Marvel fans worried that more delays are ahead. According to Express, the Game of Thrones star recently talked about The Eternals and basically revealed that he has no idea if the movie is complete.
“That’s done, it’s filmed, it’s just… God knows what’s going on with it!” Harington shared.
The actor went on to say that he doesn’t “know what’s happening on anything” at the moment. It is possible that filmmakers are close to finishing The Eternals and Harington just doesn’t know it yet.
Even still, the Game of Thrones star’s comments are a bit concerning. There is no telling when theaters will reopen and it would not be a huge shocker if Marvel is forced to push back projects a second time.
After all, if Black Widow fails to open in theaters in November, fans can expect Phase 4 to get bumped back a few more months. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen but it is a possibility at this point.
‘The Eternals’ sparks new outrage
Aside from the movie’s premiere date, The Eternals is set to be a bit of a trailblazer for the MCU. The film will feature the studio’s first openly gay couple, a move that is not sitting well with some conservative groups around the country.
The organization, One Million Moms, has officially launched a campaign to raise awareness about the gay superheroes in The Eternals. The group has started a petition that blasts Marvel for “pushing the LGBTQ agenda” on unsuspecting fans.
“One Million Moms needs your help to make sure as many people as possible are aware of Marvel pushing the LGBTQ agenda on families in the upcoming superhero movie the Eternals,” the petition reads.
The petition went on to argue that the studio should be more concerned about promoting “family-friendly programming” than being politically correct. Marvel has yet to respond to the drama.
A few months ago, Haaz Sleiman confirmed that his character shares a kiss with Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos. The two also share a child in the film.
The Eternals, starring Harington, Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, and Gemma Chan, is set to hit theaters on February 12.
