‘The Eternals’ Star Accidentally Spilled This Marvel Fan-Favorite Could Make His Introduction to the MCU in 2020
A cast member from The Eternals may have revealed that a Marvel fan-favorite will be introduced in the near future. There has been a lot of speculation that Namor the Sub-Mariner will be appearing in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier reports had the character popping up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it now sounds like he might have a cameo in The Eternals this November.
‘The Eternals’ star accidentally spills Namor teaser
Marvel has not confirmed that Namor, a.k.a. the King of Atlantis, will be introduced anytime soon. But a fan recently claimed that The Eternals star Zein al Rafih privately told them that he plays a young character who has a similar background as Namor in the comics.
“I play the role of a kid whose father gets killed by sea monsters,” Rafih allegedly stated.
Last year, The Eternals star Salma Hayek shared a photo of herself posing alongside Rafih and her other co-star, Lia McHugh, who plays Sprite in the film. The studio has not revealed who Rafih plays in the movie, but he reportedly said that he will appear as a young version of his character.
According to We Got This Covered, in the comics, Namor’s father was killed by some Atlanteans. If the rumors are true, then it is possible that Rafih will appear as a young Namor in The Eternals. He would then be replaced by an older actor down the road (and possibly even in The Eternals).
This would likely set the stage for Marvel to explore more of the character in a future film, which they have yet to announce.
Who are the Deviants?
While we wait to hear more about Namor’s cameo, there is another big mystery surrounding The Eternals. A few weeks ago, Marvel released the official synopsis for the film, which named the Deviants as the main villains in the movie.
The Deviants are a group of villains who are the main nemesis of the Eternals in the comics. The Deviants are deformed creatures who live in the subterranean. They have been enemies of the Eternals since the very beginning and should make for great villains in the upcoming film.
Marvel has not revealed which members of the Deviants will appear in the movie, but there plenty of characters at the studio’s disposal.
As far as the synopsis is concerned, we know that the Eternals are coming together after a tragedy to fight the Deviants, who were referred to as “mankind’s most ancient enemy.”
Which Deviants will appear in ‘The Eternals’?
Marvel has yet to confirm which Deviants will show up in The Eternals, but there are three villains that stand above the rest. This includes Warlord Kro, Ghaur, and Tutinax, a.k.a The Mountain mover.
Unlike the Eternals, the Divants are not blessed with long life. Warlord Kro, however, is an exception to the rule. The character has been around for over 20,000 years, and his red skin has led some people to confuse him with the Devil. He also had a secret romance with Thena (Angelina Jolie), which could be an interesting storyline to explore.
Ghaur, meanwhile, is a priest lord for the Deviants and has used his powers to control people in positions of leadership. This includes the time he took over the body of a Celestial, the same race that created the Eternals.
Lastly, there is Tutinax, who is by far the strongest member of the Deviants. In fact, Tutinax’s abilities rival the cosmic powers of the Eternals, making him an ideal match for the superheroes.
Kumail Nanjiani opens up about ‘The Eternals’
With filming for The Eternals nearing an end, actor Kumail Nanjiani recently opened up about joining the MCU. Nanjiani, who is best known for his role in Silicon Valley and got absolutely shredded for Marvel, admitted that he still cannot believe he landed a part in the MCU.
The actor did not give too much away about the upcoming film, but he did say that The Eternals is more of a science-fiction project than anything else.
“It’s really, really an epic,” Nanjiani shared. “And it’s really such a science-fiction story. It’s a superhero story, but in some ways, it’s the most sci-fi of all the Marvel movies and it’s the most epic of all the Marvel movies. And the story spans thousands of years. So it’s really not like any of the other Marvel movies.”
Fans can watch Nanjiani in action when The Eternals, starring Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harington, hits theaters in November.
