‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’: Emily VanCamp Thinks the Power Broker ‘Could Be Anybody’
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+, everyone wants to know the identity of the mysterious Power Broker. Ever since the third and fourth episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, some Marvel fans have speculated the Power Broker is none other than Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp).
In an interview with Variety, VanCamp was asked about the role of the Power Broker in the Disney+ miniseries. However, she refused to give away any details about the character’s identity.

Sharon Carter returned for ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
VanCamp first played Sharon in the 2014 Marvel film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She reprised the role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, where she briefly played the love interest of Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans).
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier shows what happened to Sharon after the events of Captain America: Civil War.
“To get to see who she’s become over this long period of time, and independent of Captain America as we know him, is really interesting to me. The intrigue for me was to see who is Sharon now,” VanCamp told Variety.
Sharon Carter has changed a lot since ‘Captain America: Civil War’
In the third episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) travel to Madripoor to look for those responsible for recreating the Super Soldier Serum.
While in Madripoor, the three run into Sharon and discover she has been on the run since the events of Captain America: Civil War. Compared to the loyal government agent she once was, Sharon no longer has a heroic outlook on life.
Speaking with Variety, VanCamp explained the shift in Sharon’s characterization, saying:
“She’s not that wide eyed young agent anymore. She’s a little rough around the edges. Do we find out exactly what she’s had to do in order to be where she is now and survive? No. But we get a sense that it hasn’t always been easy, and that the sacrifices she’s made weren’t always worth it in her mind. That was kind of cool to see that chip on her shoulder that we never really did see before.”
Emily VanCamp would not reveal the Power Broker’s identity in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
In Madripoor, Sharon makes her money trading illegal art, but she also seems to be well connected to other criminals and has access to advanced technology.
This has led some Marvel fans to believe Sharon could in fact be the Power Broker, a mystery character who ordered the recreation of the Super Soldier Serum. VanCamp, of course, cannot confirm or deny the identity of the Power Broker.
“I mean, the Power Broker could be anybody. Also, there are several characters that have yet to be seen. So, I mean, I can’t say anything,” she told Variety.
Episode 5 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will premiere on Disney+ on April 16.
