There have been problems since the moment the couple’s families first meet. During a trip to the Dominican Republic for Chantel and Pedro’s second wedding, the families get together for a meal, and it goes horribly wrong. Pedro’s mother and sister are upset that Chantel’s mother wanted Pedro to sign a prenuptial agreement.

There is a lot of tension when they arrive, especially when Pedro presents his family with gifts, including a laptop. But the problems really start when they serve chicken feet and chicken necks to them, which Chantel’s family takes as an insult. They actually end up leaving, and that’s just the start of the drama between the families.

In another heated moment, Pedro and Chantel’s brother, River, get into an altercation at the dinner table. There is clearly a lot of water under the bridge, and it’s a hard pill for anyone to swallow, especially Chantel.

Chantel and Pedro’s mother and sister have had their own problems

Chantel herself has had problems with Lidia and Nicole. Before getting married to Pedro for the second time, Lidia and Nicole come to talk with Chantel. The meeting doesn’t go well, even though Chantel does apologize to them for her family’s behavior when they refused to get out of the van and mingle with Pedro and his family in the countryside at his grandmother’s residence.

But the conversation turns to Chantel mentioning Pedro sending them money every month, including gifts. She details that she can only get one date night a month with Pedro. Nicole gets defensive, and things get tense. Chantel ends up walking away after calling Nicole some choice names.

In season 1, Chantel learns during a family counseling session that Pedro wants to bring his mother and sister to live with him in the United States. Obviously, she isn’t thrilled about the idea, and neither is her family.

In a first look at the premiere of season 2, Chantel reveals to the cameras whether she will help Pedro bring his family to live with him in the United States or not.

Pedro has talked to an immigration lawyer before about the situation, and he learned that he needs to be a United States citizen before he can act as a sponsor. But, since he’s married to a U.S. citizen, he can sponsor them now. But he will need help from Chantel, since there would be a joint interview with the couple. Pedro isn’t going to be able to get his family to the U.S. early without Chantel’s help.

Chantel hasn’t actually spoken to Pedro’s mother or sister since she last left the Dominican Republic. “It’s hard for me to talk about Pedro’s family in a conversation without getting upset,” Chantel says.

Pedro is still hoping his wife will help him bring his family to live with him. “But you know that they still want to come to America,” Pedro declares. “And I need the help for bring my mom and my sister to United States.”

Next, Chantel reveals if she will help in this venture. “Well you’re not getting it,” Chantel bluntly tells him. A producer asks Chantel if she isn’t going to help him, and she says, “No. If Lidia and Nicole lived with Pedro and I, they would have 24-hour access to ruining my life and my marriage.”

It sounds like Chantel won’t be helping Pedro bring his mother and sister to the United States, at least not anytime soon.

Season 2 of The Family Chantel will premiere on Monday, October 12 at 9 p.m. E.S.T.
