Family Feud has been around, in one form or another, since the seventies. The show offers contestants the chance to win cash and prizes if they correctly identify the correct responses to survey questions. When it first debuted in 1976, Family Feud was hosted by Richard Dawson.

Over the next few years, the show went through several incarnations, with different hosts and studio announcers. Through it all, Family Feud remained popular, and eventually, it became one of the most-watched game shows on television.

In the early 2000s, however, the show began suffering from low ratings and showrunners were anxious to find a new host, one that could revitalize the poor numbers and give a much-needed boost to the faltering game show. After reviewing actors and entertainers, they settled on one popular comedian who had already established himself as a talented host.

Steve Harvey became the host of ‘Family Feud’ in 2010

Harvey was born in 1957 and raised in a large, working-class family. Harvey had a happy childhood, although his family experienced a number of struggles, and often dealt with financial problems. After Harvey attended college, he entered the workforce and had a variety of odd jobs before eventually settling on a career in comedy, including selling insurance, cleaning carpets, and delivering the mail.

In the eighties, Harvey began earning a reputation as a talented comedian and toured the country, performing in comedy clubs and restaurants. Eventually, he transitioned to television, starring in his very own show, The Steve Harvey Show. By 2010, Harvey had become a major star, with thousands of fans all over the world. Showrunners for Family Feud had taken notice as well, and they hired the talented comedian as the new host.

In short order, Family Feud rose to the top with Harvey at the helm. Harvey’s jovial, easygoing presence boosted the popularity of the show, and viewers absolutely loved his work as a host. These days, Harvey continues to host the show, as well as the spinoff, Celebrity Family Feud. Harvey’s reactions to contestants have become the stuff of legend, with a few responses, in particular, becoming especially noteworthy.

One of the most hilarious reactions that Harvey ever committed to film was when he posed the question to a contestant, “your boss just said… ‘”Get out, you’re FIRED!” What might you do before you leave the building?” The contestant, a dignified older gentleman, gave a detailed response where he described how he would drag the boss in question out of the building and throw him through a car’s windshield.

Harvey cracked up at the answer, and it took several minutes before he was able to compose himself. That isn’t the only time that Harvey has lost it at a hilarious response, however.

On one memorable occasion, Harvey asked a contestant to “name a secret about himself a man might only tell his wife on his deathbed.” The contestant replied “I’m just gonna say that he lied about being in trouble. Well, he lied about dying on his deathbed.” Harvey’s reaction was purely comedic, prompting viewers to crack up even harder.
