Hollywood’s zooming car franchise, Fast and Furious, has entertained audiences for 20 years now. With its ninth edition’s release this year, the movies have earned the title of the most amusing car stunts. This, however, is not the end of the road, with two movies still in store for fans. The franchise just announced the release date for its 10th installment.

When will ‘Fast and Furious 10’ hit theaters?

Universal Pictures recently announced that Fast and Furious will release on April 7, 2023, Entertainment Weekly first reported. Filming is set to begin in January 2022, with the possibility of both movies being shot back to back.

Vin Diesel, who has led the franchise as Dominic Toretto, teased to EW in an earlier interview that the 10th movie would be even bigger than the others so far.

“Just wait for 10,” Diesel said. “Let’s just say, the fact that you guys know that the studio is saying we can’t cover all this ground that needs to be covered in just one movie, you can only imagine what is to come.”

F9, the ninth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, released to a massive opening earlier this year. Despite the pandemic, the movie saw the highest opening weekend after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019.

With the success of F9, the producers and actors took no time to get back in action for the next movie.

What we know about ‘Fast and Furious 10’ so far

Justin Lin will direct Fast and Furious 10, Lin also directed the third movie in the series, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Most of the franchise veterans — including Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Chris Bridges, and Tyrese Gibson — are expected to return for the film.

John Cena, who made his debut in the franchise as Jakob Toretto in F9, has not been confirmed. Ahead of F9‘s release, he said he was not focusing on the future of his character. Another Fast veteran Dwayne Johnson, however, is not expected to return for the remaining two films owing to his feud with Diesel.

Jason Statham could return in the 10th movie. Statham played the role of Deckard Shaw, Diesel’s enemy in Furious 7, and then became a recurring member of the team. If the mid-credits scene of the ninth movie is to be believed, the next movie might pit Shaw against Han.

Who is the mystery Gal?

A major surprise came from Sung Kang, who plays Han, and his reaction to the mid-credits scene. “I think there’s just one word — Gisele,” Kang said. “All roads lead to Gisele.”

What he is referring to is Gal Gadot’s character and Han’s girlfriend Gisele, who died in the sixth movie. It is interesting to note that she allegedly died while trying to stop Owen Shaw’s gang from taking off on a plane — thus creating an obvious rift between her boyfriend Han and Owen Shaw’s brother Deckard. The sixth movie’s credits scene had clarified that it was Deckard Shaw who seemingly killed Han in Tokyo. What remains to be seen is what went down between them before that.

Kang’s reaction to the mid-credits scene in F9 is a curious hint at the possible return of Gadot in Han and Deckard’s story.

We’ll find out on April 7, 2023, whether Gadot will return for the movie and what will happen between Han and Shaw.
