The Flash kicked off season 8 with a five-part event titled “Armageddon,” which features many stars from across the Arrowverse. The end of episode 3 teased the return of some of these characters, but episode 4 will heavily feature Batwoman, Alex Danvers, and Ryan Choi. Many The Flash fans might remember Ryan Choi from “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” but he has a lot of history in the comic books, as well.

'The Flash' Season 8 Episode 4 actors Osric Chau and Danielle Nicolet, as their comic book characters Ryan Choi and Cecile Horton, stand side-by-side. Ryan wears a black suit over a white button-up shirt and a high-tech watch. Cecile wears a brown dress.

Osric Chau first appeared in ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ as the comic book character Ryan Choi

The Arrowverse first introduced Ryan Choi, played by Osric Chau, in the comic book-inspired event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Ryan was a scientist living in Ivy Town who was married and had a kid. The end of days, or “Crisis,” was taking out multiple universes, thanks to an antimatter wave created by the Anti-Monitor, and the Arrowverse heroes needed Ryan’s help.

The team of superheroes recruited Ryan as the Paragon of Humanity to help them save the world from the Anti-Monitor. Although, it took a bit of convincing to get him to agree.

In the end, Ryan helped the other Paragons ensure the world’s survival. He now lives on Earth-Prime among the rest of the heroes of the Arrowverse. But, Ryan Choi’s run in the comic books would suggest that his time in the Arrowverse isn’t over yet. Thankfully, fans will get to see him again in The Flash.

Ryan Choi is an iteration of the Atom in the comics

In the comic books, Ryan Choi is the third character to take on the mantle of the Atom. Ryan idolized Ray Palmer, the second iteration of the Atom. And after being born and raised in Hong Kong, he immigrated to the United States to take over Ray’s position at Ivy University. Later, Ryan also took over Ray’s superhero duties. “Crisis on Infinite Earths” nodded to his comic book history when Ryan fangirled over Ray Palmer during their first meeting.

After “Crisis,” Osric Chau discussed his future as Ryan Choi with ComicBook.com and whether or not fans would see him follow his story in the comic books.

“I want Ryan to wear the Atom suit at some point. I would love for him to take on the full mantle of the Atom. We want the hero journey. I want him to earn it,” Chau said. “So that’s what I hope for, if it makes sense for the story. If it makes sense for him to hop into any of these shows. Does he have his own show? I don’t know. But I hope that the powers to be are at least thinking about it.”

Fans will just have to wait and see if they ever get to witness Chau in Ryan Choi’s comic book costume in the Arrowverse. And perhaps they will in The Flash Season 8 Episode 4.
