Joan Vassos’ season of The Golden Bachelorette is off to a rocky start, with news that one of her contestants had a restraining order taken out against him days before entering the mansion. While Gil Ramirez is a problematic part of the season, he isn’t the only issue. Fans weren’t prepared to see Gerry Turner show up again. His appearance sums up pretty much everything that is wrong with the series.

Why did Gerry Turner appear on ‘The Golden Bachelorette’

Gerry Turner showed up in episode 3 of The Golden Bachelorette to offer Joan Vassos some advice. That’s not all that Turner appeared to be after, though. He never asked her to take him back.

Still, he did give the vibe of someone looking for a second chance with the Maryland resident. The scene didn’t come off as particularly romantic or sweet, though. In fact, it felt uncomfortable.

Turner turning up to make a bid for Joan Vassos has its problems. Just like Matt Rossi showed up to try and woo Jenn Tran back on The Bachelorette, Turner’s appearance felt forced and contrived. In short, it seemed less about a love connection and more a desperate bid for attention. It truly highlighted the major issues with the dating competition.

Why is Gerry Turner so controversial among Bachelor Nation?

While Gerry Turner is nowhere near as controversial as some of the men seen on The Bachelorette this season, he still brought plenty of drama to his season of The Golden Bachelor. The network presented him as a wholesome widower looking for love for the first time after the death of his wife, Toni Turner when The Golden Bachelor premiered. By the finale, it was clear Turner wasn’t nearly as wholesome as he first appeared.

Kathy Swarts Suggests Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s Marriage Was the Result of Getting ‘Caught up in the Moment’

Days before the finale, a previous girlfriend stepped forward to reveal just how quickly the retiree moved on following the sudden death of his wife. She shared their complicated history and how Turner turned on her quickly. He kicked her out of his home after asking her to move on. Turner also refused to take her to a reunion because of weight gain.

He was also criticized for leading on Leslie Fhima, only to choose Theresa Nist in the end. Later, fans dragged him for ending his marriage to Nist after just three months and seemingly making jabs at her on social media following the split.

Gerry Turner is not the man Joan Vassos needs, and thankfully, he didn’t try to join the competition. The Golden Bachelorette didn’t need to see him at all.
