The Good Doctor is going to air the first episode of its fifth season later this month on TV. Fans hope to see specific developments with some of the characters. Several of them want Shaun and Lea to tie the knot and live happily.

People can expect a few things when they tune into the show. They will not see one of the stars return to the hospital. Antonia Thomas has left the show, which was not an easy choice for her.

The Good Doctor has a large ensemble of stars, and Thomas was a part of the main cast on the show. For four seasons, Thomas portrayed Dr. Claire Brown. Viewers first meet Claire as a surgical resident at the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Claire becomes good friends with Shaun and usually has a lot of patience when she is with him. People know her for her emotional maturity and understanding. As the show progresses, viewers learn about Claire’s past. Specifically, her complicated relationship with her father.

Claire’s father abandoned her when she was a child, so she naturally holds resentment toward him. Eventually, Claire allows him back into her life but not before airing her grievances. The reason why she tries to forgive him is that she learns that he has cancer. Despite the tension, Claire displays her ability to understand others.

In season 4, Claire visits Guatemala. She decides to remain there indefinitely to help those who desperately need medical care. If the character ever appears again, she likely will have a smaller role.

Season 5 of The Good Doctor will air on ABC soon, and fans want to know who will come back. They likely were sad to hear that Thomas is not returning to the show. According to Entertainment, she talked about her choice to leave the medical drama series in an interview.

“It was a really, really difficult decision, and leaving, I have to say, is a bittersweet thing for me because the last four years have been absolutely incredible,” Thomas stated. She expressed how she felt lucky to portray a complex character like Claire.

“I think, ultimately, for me, it’s about coming to the point where I think we’ve really run the gamut of different things that Claire can have gone through, and I’m now really excited to explore different creative opportunities,” Thomas explained.

This might not be the last time people see Thomas as Claire. The actor expressed interest in returning for a guest appearance. Fans will have to wait and see if a possible appearance is going to be in the fifth season or later.
