‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Preview for Episode 8 Shows Janine Alive
In the final moments of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Episode 5, “Chicago,” June (Elisabeth Moss) anxiously looks for Janine (Madeline Brewer) in the aftermath of a bombing. Many fans worry Janine might be dead. But in a preview for Episode 8, June appears to be very much alive.
June leaves Chicago without Janine in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 4 Episode 6
In The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Episode 6, “Vows,” Moira (Samira Wiley) finds June in the rubble of the bombing and tries to convince her to leave. But June is worried about Janine, as the two were together when the bomb hit.
June calls for her friend, but Janine is nowhere to be found. She reluctantly heads out with Moira toward the boat. And eventually, as seen in episodes 7 and 8, June makes it into Canada safely.
In a preview for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 4 Episode 8, Janine is alive
In a sneak peek for the upcoming episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, “Testimony,” June prepares to testify against Gilead and the Waterfords. She and Moira are heard discussing the healing process and June’s fury toward their captors.
But in a brief scene, Janine is shown lying down in what seems to be a cell. She is wearing a gauze eye patch stained with blood and appears to be in a daze.
It’s unclear if this is a flashback to Janine’s time in Gilead or if it’s a preview of where she is now. If she is alive, Janine could be back in the custody of Gilead. Or she may have been captured by some faction group in Chicago.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ star Madeline Brewer says Janine isn’t in a good place
In a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, The Handmaid’s Tale star Madeline Brewer talked about Janine’s final moments with June. And she suggested despite Janine’s frustrations, she was exactly where she wanted to be.
“I don’t think she ever really wanted to leave June,” Brewer said. “She loves June, and she wanted to stay with her. She realized that ‘I have to see this through to the end with my friend, whatever [the] end is.’ Janine means what she says [when she says], ‘I feel safer when we’re together.’ Because they’ve been safer to a degree this whole time.”
Without giving away too much, Brewer revealed that fans will get to see Janine again. But she noted viewers might not like what they see.
“We see Janine by the end of the season,” the actor said. “It’s not at a place that we want her to be, but such is life.”
After everything she’s endured, Janine deserves to be out of Gilead, just like June, Moira, and Emily (Alexis Bledel). Hopefully, she’s still alive, and whatever hardship she’s going through won’t last much longer.
New episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale air Wednesdays on Hulu.
