The Handmaid’s Tale has kept viewers on the edges of their seats since season 1. The main character, June (Elisabeth Moss), or Offred, has been through hell and lived to tell about it. She’s lost sight of two children now because of Gilead, but will she ever see them again? There are spoilers ahead.

June is separated from her first daughter Hannah early on in the story. June is forced to live in sexual slavery at the hands of the tyrannical Gilead. Hannah was taken away from her parents and is being raised in Gilead. June does everything in her power to get her daughter back, even choosing to stay in Gilead instead of fleeing to safety with the slim chance she might be able to retrieve Hannah. Her main focus is Hannah and she has a mission to rescue her daughter from her captors and nothing is going to stop her.

June gives up her second daughter Nichole

June gets pregnant with her second daughter, Nichole when she is forced by Serena Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) to have sex with Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) so she can have a child of her own. Serena’s husband, Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) can’t have children, so the “ceremonies” have proven unfruitful for them. Serena hatches an idea to get June and Nick to create a child for her. June delivers the child, a daughter who is subsequently named Nichole.

June makes the ultimate decision to send baby Nichole to Canada along with Emily (Alexis Bledel). She makes it to freedom and Emily takes her to Moira (Samira Wiley), June’s best friend and June’s husband, Luke (O. T. Fagbenle). Together, they are raising Nichole in the freedom of Canada and away from Gilead.

Why does June stay in Gilead?

June only chooses to stay in Gilead at the chance she will be able to rescue Hannah, and she isn’t going to let it go. She’s going to do anything she can to take Gilead down in the meantime while she devises a plan to get her daughter back. Once she does that, she can find a way to get to Canada and to freedom with the rest of her family.

Will June ever reunite with either of her daughters?

Fans are dying to know if June will ever reunite with her daughters. Obviously, viewers aren’t going to want to see June stuck in Gilead forever. At some point, she will need to escape and find a better life elsewhere. The evidence suggests she will get to see her daughters again eventually.

Margaret Atwood recently released a follow-up to her highly popular first novel in which the Hulu series is based. The new novel, called The Testaments, holds the answer to June’s mysterious future. The new story picks things up 15 years after things concluded in The Handmaid’s Tale.

In the novel, it’s revealed that June escapes to Canada and is eventually reunited with her two daughters, Hannah and Nichole. They are all finally together at long last after so many tumultuous years apart. It’s a satisfying conclusion to a gut-wrenching story.

So, it seems that eventually, if events follow the new book, June will finally reunite with her children. Hulu and MGM TV are working to bring the new story to screens everywhere, so it looks like things are going to get better for June in the end. It will be nice to see things take a turn in a positive direction for June and her children.
