‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ Trailer and Everything We Know About the Series
The Haunting of Bly Manor is the second installment of Netflix’s The Haunting anthology series, which began in 2018 with The Haunting of Hill House. The trailer recently dropped, giving fans a first look at the terrifying story.
‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ is a chilling tale
The Haunting series was created by Mike Flanagan, who is no stranger to spine-tingling material. He wrote and directed feature films such as Before I Wake, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Doctor Sleep. With a solid track record of creeping out audiences, Flanagan is the ideal candidate to helm The Haunting series on Netflix.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on the 1898 ghost story, The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James. The official synopsis for the show reads, “After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose.”
Deadline clarifies that the narrative unfolds in 1980s England, which is a departure from The Haunting of Hill House, which takes place in the United States in 1992 and 2018.
A few ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ alums are along for the ride
The Haunting of Hill House revolves around the Crain family. As adults, the siblings work to come to terms with supernatural events that happened in their childhood home. The thrill ride wrapped up after eight episodes with a satisfying yet disturbing conclusion.
Although The Haunting of Bly Manor is unrelated to the previous tale, some of the Hill House stars are returning to The Haunting series in different roles. Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel are all back for more scares.
‘The Haunting of Bly Manor’ teaser trailer paints a frightening picture
The teaser trailer kicks off with eerie vocals that set the mood for a tense ride. The first image we see is of a sprawling estate with plenty of room for things that go bump in the night. Next, a young woman discovers a creepy doll in a spooky cellar, and the narrator tells us how things will go down. “I have a story. A ghost story.”
The next minute and ten seconds of the trailer treats viewers to haunted dolls, ghostly figures, drenched ghouls, menacing shadows, and super weird dollhouses. And the most unnerving part of the trailer? The kids in the home appear to be aware yet unruffled by the chilling occurrences plaguing their residence.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see how the story of The Haunting of Bly Manor shakes out. The horror series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 9, 2020, just in time to haunt all our nightmares this Halloween season.
