The Hilarious Way Aidy Bryant’s ‘Garbage Man’ Husband Proposed
Comedian Aidy Bryant is best known for bring people laughter on Saturday Night Live. She also co-created and stars in the Hulu original show, Shrill, since 2019.
Bryant’s life is definitely full of funny moments, and it makes sense that she also experienced a noteworthy proposal. In fact, Bryant once shared with fans the hilarious way her husband, Conner O’Malley, proposed to her.
Who is Aidy Bryant’s husband Conner O’Malley?
Just like Bryant, O’Malley also works in comedy.
He started his career at the Annoyance Theatre in Chicago. Then went on to upload funny videos on Vine, which led him to attention from producers of various shows.
He was hired as a writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2014. Since then, he has worked on other TV series like Broad City, Horace and Pete, and Joe Pera Talks with You.
Before O’Malley went into comedy, he grew up in a working class family. He once told Paste Magazine: “Everybody in my family is an elevator mechanic, or an electrician or a carpenter. They’re all in a trade… We’re all super working class, union jobs, fix-it-ourselves kind of people, and I was the first one who decided to do comedy, go to community college and then drop out.”
Bryant also once revealed that it took O’Malley a while to succeed in showbiz. He used to do a variety of odd jobs, including being a garbage collector for some time. Bryant shared that he was “a literal garbage man who worked for 1-800-GOT-JUNK and pulled garbage out of hoarders’ homes.”
How did Aidy Bryant and Conner O’Malley meet?
Bryant and O’Malley became acquainted in 2008 while working on a show together at the Annoyance Theatre.
For Bryant, she knew that there was something special about O’Malley because he took their relationship seriously, unlike the guys that she had been with before.
“I had only had experiences with horrible mind games with men,” Bryant told Bust. “But it was kind of perfect because I finally was like, that’s what I don’t want. I don’t want games or manipulation or trying to make each other jealous. I want full, comfortable honesty. And that is really what Conner and I have always had.”
How did Conner O’Malley propose to Aidy Bryant?
In an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2017, Bryant retold the funny story of how O’Malley proposed to her.
The starlet shared that it came as a real shock to her. It happened after she came home from work and saw her dog with a bow-tie, which she thought was odd since he did not normally wear a bow-tie.
After she took notice of the dog, someone appeared suddenly out of nowhere and popped her the question. Bryant said: “Basically, the second I shut the door, a man — who I discovered was Conner — frantically came around the corner and was just like, ‘Will you marry me?!’ No box, no ‘I love you.’ … Just a man in full terror standing very far from a dog in a bow tie, just holding a loose ring going, ‘Will you marry me?!'”
Bryant initially thought that it was a joke since everything was just so crazy and hectic. However, when she realized that O’Malley was being serious, she accepted his proposal.
The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in April 2018. She broke the news to fans on social media by posting a photo from her wedding.
A source told People later: “Aidy was a blushing bride. She was smiling from ear to ear all day… The entire day was really a joy. From the weather to the food to her gorgeous dress, it was all perfect.”
