The Internet Is Excited for Zendaya’s Emmy Nomination for ‘Euphoria’; ‘Finally Got the Recognition She Deserves’
Even though this year has been rough on movies, and filming anything in general, good television shows are still coming. And so the 2020 Emmy nominations didn’t disappoint (too much), especially if you’re a fan of Zendaya. She received her first Emmy nomination and the internet is ecstatic that she “finally” received recognition for her stellar performance on the HBO show Euphoria.
Zendaya received her first Emmy nomination
Leslie Jones and Laverne Cox hosted the nomination announcement ceremony for the 72nd Annual Emmy Awards on July 28. The award ceremony will take place on Sept. 20, and Variety reported on the nominees, which Zendaya was a part of.
Zendaya received a nomination for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria, which aired last summer. The show was also nominated in the Contemporary Costumes and Contemporary Make-Up (non-prosthetics) categories. With the make-up revolution that the series started last summer, it’d be a surprise if it didn’t win that category.
The music was also nominated, which Labrinth oversaw. His work is nominated for Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score) and Original Music And Lyrics for the song “All For Us,” which he and Zendaya duet together. It’s played in the season finale.
“I’m honestly speechless, my heart is just overflowing with love and gratitude,” Zendaya shared on Twitter and Instagram. “I’m so incredibly honored to work beside the talented people that I get to call family. I am a small piece of a big beautiful puzzle and I’m so proud of all of you.”
Fans are excited she was ‘finally’ recognized for her acting in the show
Zendaya wowed audiences with her blunt and heartbreaking portrayal of Rue, who’s a teenager addicted to drugs. A lot of kids in her group of high schoolers also face troubles such as body image issues, coming to terms with their sexuality, and domestic abuse situations. The show really struck a chord with fans, and Zendaya’s performance was certainly a big part of that.
As one Twitter user pointed out, Episode 3 was such a standout performance alone for Zendaya.
“Zendaya finally got the recognition she deserves for this scene. & for all the other scenes as well,” they wrote.
In the episode, Rue had to deal with budding feelings for her best friend Jules as well as an intense scene with her drug dealer and friend Fez. Overall, Euphoria proved Zendaya’s acting was ready for recognition, and fans are happy she’s receiving it.
And other users are just singing her praises overall. She really has the whole internet behind her back, which is great to see.
She has great company in that category
The category that Zendaya’s nominated in — Lead Actress in a Drama Series — is also full of other talented actors too.
For AppleTV+’s The Morning Show, Jennifer Aniston received a nomination. And For Netflix’s The Crown, Olivia Colman received a nomination for her role as Queen Elizabeth II. From the same streaming site, Laura Linney was nominated for her role in Ozark.
BBC America’s Killing Eve continued with its streak of having the two leads nominated in this category, with both Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh being nominated. Both were a part of this category last year, and Comer took home the prize.
Whether Zendaya wins or not is of course unknown, but if the internet could vote, it’s safe to say she’d be a fan-favorite.
