‘The Kardashians’: Kourtney’s Engagement to Travis Leaves Penelope Disick in Tears
The Kardashians episode 4, “We’re Celebrating Sex,” pulls back the curtain on Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s engagement, including Penelope Disick’s reaction. Most of the Kardashian family was present for the proposal, except for Kourtney’s three kids: Mason, Penelope, and Reign Disick. After Travis proposed, Kourtney contacted all of her children, but Penelope took the news the hardest.

Mason, Penelope, and Reign weren’t at Travis and Kourtney’s engagement
Barker popped the question on Oct. 17 in Montecito, California at the Rosewood Miramar Beach hotel. As documented in the “We’re Celebrating Sex” episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Tristan Thompson, Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Kendall Jenner, and Kylie Jenner were all there for the occasion. Additionally, Barker’s children, Alabama and Landon Barker, were part of the celebration.
Kourtney’s three children, Mason, Penelope, and Reign, weren’t at the hotel for the engagement. Kris thought it would be better for Kourtney to share the news with them privately since they are younger.
Penelope Disick cried when Kourtney shared her engagement with her over FaceTime in ‘The Kardashians’ episode
After the engagement, everyone sat down to dinner in the hotel suite. Kourtney missed FaceTime calls from Penelope, so she called her back to share the good news. “Do you wanna know what my surprise was?” she asks Penelope over the phone. “We got engaged!”
“Look at, mom got a ring!” Kim says. Penelope immediately starts to cry.
“Is that upsetting?” Kourtney asks. “Aw, why are you crying baby?” Kim adds. Penelope asks her to hang up, leaving Kourtney to feel bad for her.
“Penelope took it hard,” Kourtney explains to cameras. “I think it’s a big change for her. Even though she loves Travis, she doesn’t know what that means. Like is it taking me away?”
Meanwhile, Mason wasn’t upset, but he does ask “What’s that mean?” and then adds: “Not exciting!” Reign “was fine” when Kourtney shared the news.
Kourtney admittedly wishes her kids were part of the engagement. “I think it would have made them feel more included in the decision and part of the surprise,” she tells cameras.
Kris Jenner excluded Kourtney’s kids from the engagement
The Kardashians episode details the events before Travis and Kourtney’s engagement. In the car ride to the hotel, Kris explains why Kourtney’s kids aren’t going to be part of the engagement festivities. “There was just no way to get that whole thing dialed in and then at the last minute, Kourtney told Travis that Penelope wasn’t feeling well,” Kris tells Kim. “I’m not sure any of us know how exactly they’re gonna react.”
Kris thought Kourtney should figure out how to break the news to her kids. As Kourtney tells cameras: “I know that my mom made that decision and it probably wasn’t her best.”

After Kourtney’s glam session, the family sits down to dinner and toasts for the happy couple. Kris gushes about Travis and how he asked for her permission and Robert Kardashians’. The Blink-182 drummer visited his grave before proposing.
Barker’s son Landon also gives a speech in the episode. “I’ll start off by saying I have never seen my dad this happy before,” Landon started. “I know it’s going to last really long and be an amazing part of our lives and journey.”
