‘The L Word: Generation Q’ Season 2: A Long Overdue Update

'The L Word: Generation Q' has become a fan-favorite TV show since its 2019 premiere, but there's unfortunately been a long wait for season 2. The series probably faced delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, just like other shows. But it shouldn't be too much longer.

Fans of The L Word: Generation Q are counting down the days until the next season comes out. It’s been well over a year since that bombshell season 1 finale aired in January 2020, but the series has been slow to return to the air. It likely faced delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, just like other TV shows, but the good news is that The L Word: Generation Q Season 2 is on the way.

‘The L Word: Generation Q’ Season 2 is in production

Many productions are still dealing with delays and other schedule adjustments. But ever since the second season of The L Word: Generation Q entered production in December 2020, it has continued without any apparent hiccups.

According to the entertainment website Backstage, the show’s most recent filming happened during the week of April 4 in various locations around Los Angeles, including a boutique hotel and a private residence. Judging from the steady pace of filming, it seems possible the new season could premiere as early as later in 2021. But that depends on the team and whether things keep going smoothly.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet reached out to show creator Ilene Chaiken for further comment on season 2, including a possible release date, but did not hear back by the time of publication.

How the first season of the show ended

If you forgot, the season 1 finale ended with several cliffhangers, including Shane’s breakup with Quiara, the reveal of Jose’s marital status, and Sophie’s conflicting feelings for Finley and Dani.

Since then, there haven’t been many details about the storylines in season 2. But showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan told TV Insider that she has plenty of exciting ideas for certain characters. “I have whiteboards filled up with ideas,” she confessed. “I am so excited to get back into it. I’m so excited to explore like who Sophie picked and how that affects friendships and romance and the dynamic inside of these new characters.”

“I’m also just desperate to see what Bette does next [after losing the election but potentially finding new love],” Ryan added. “I think I’m just as excited to see it as anybody else is, I just the one that has to actually make the thing, but I have all the same questions that you do. I just have to answer them.”

Going by the first season, there’s no doubt in our minds that Ryan will cook up an amazing story for season 2. We just hope it’s not too much longer for new episodes! Until the next season comes out, feel free to check out more of our coverage of the series, below.
