Season 5 of ‘The Last Kingdom’ will be the final season, but it’s back in production
The beloved story of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), son of Uhtred, is being cut short with season 5, as it will be the final season. Deadline announced the news of the conclusion of the series with season 5, verifying the news with Netflix and Carnival Films.
The day the news came out that season 5 will be the last season, fans learned later on social media that the series is back in production. In a video shared on the official social media channels, Dreymon, who plays Uhtred, made the announcement about production. A number of fan favorites can also be seen in the video, including Martini.

On June 10, Cavan Clerkin, who plays Father Pyrlig in the series, shared an image on Instagram of himself and Timothy Innes, who plays King Edward. The photo was taken by Stefanie Martini, who plays Eadith. She can be seen in the background through the reflection from the window as Clerkin and Innes sit in the black and white photo. They both have on sunglasses for the shot taken outside, and Clerkin has on a hat as well. Behind Clerkin and Innes is a sliding glass door, and they both are dressed in shirts and pants as well.
Clerkin captioned the post on Instagram: “The King and I.” He also added a camera emoji, giving credit to Martini for taking the photo. He added a hashtag as well, “#thelastkingdom.” He tagged Innes, Martini, and himself in the post as well.
Father Pyrlig, King Edward, and Eadith in ‘The Last Kingdom’
Father Pyrlig is a priest who was once a warrior as well. He is loyal to Wessex, and to both King Alfred (David Dawson) in his time and King Edward.
King Edward of Wessex is the son of King Alfred. He’s trying to find his place as King after his father, but it’s a hard situation for him.
Eadith is the sister of Eardwulf (Jamie Blackley). She gets manipulated into being Aethelred’s (Toby Regbo) mistress at one point. But she finds herself caught up with Uhtred and his friends after setting Aethelflaed free (Millie Brady).
