‘The Last Kingdom’: Fans React to the Official Look at Lady Aelswith in Season 5: ‘So She Is Alive?’
In the hit series The Last Kingdom, Lady Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth) has been an integral part of the show. But at the end of season 4, it was unclear if she would make it. However, according to a new image shared on the official social media accounts of Aelswith, she will return for season 5 of the show.
Lady Aelswith in ‘The Last Kingdom’
Aelswith is the wife of the late King Alfred (David Dawson). She has two children, King Edward of Wessex (Timothy Innes) and Lady Aethelflaed (Millie Brady), who is now ruler of the Mercians.
Aelswith is poisoned by Lord Aethelhelm (Adrian Schiller) in season 4 while held captive by the Danes. Although eventually allowed free, she falls, and we last see her lying in bed at the end of the season. But it looks like she survives for a time, at least until season 5, which is a relief for some fans.

The official social media accounts for the series have been sharing official looks of some of the characters, and on July 19, 2021, fans got a glimpse of Aelswith in the new season. In the upper left corner is the name of the series, and Aelswith can be seen in the middle while wearing a hooded robe held together with a metal clasp. She has on dark-colored clothing as well as a cross necklace around her neck. With her hood over her head, Aelswith looks off. Other people can be seen in the background as well out of focus.
Below the image is a quote from Aelswith. “’The sacrament of healing will restore you.’ – Aelswith.”
Eliza Butterworth, who plays the character, is tagged in the post. The post is captioned: “Who will be healed and who will weaken? #thelastkingdom #tlk5.” Over 33,000 people like the post, and over 300 people commented on it.
Fans react to the post
As can be expected, fans have their own thoughts about the post. One fan mentions that they “thought she was dead in the end of S04.”
Another wanted to know “how” Aelswith survived. “😮OMG. How did she survive?” they asked.
“So she is alive?????? 😮😮😮😮😮,” another fan asked.
One fan admits to hating Aelswith. “I hate that character but I loveeeee this woman 🥺😂,” they said.
“She lives!” said another fan. “I hate her so much! Eliza is amazing ✨.”
A fan is “so happy” Aelswith is “alive.” “So happy she’s alive in s5, ‘cause I started to like her in s4 👑🥰,” they said.
“I sincerely hope that Aelswith will stay alive #wewanttlkseason6,” a fan added.
Another fan hopes Aelswith “will survive,” and we’ll have to see how things play out. “Lady Aelswith 🤍!” the fan said. “What a wonderful character played by a talented actress 🔥! Love her so much, she needs to be protected. Hope she will survive.”
It’s always great to see official looks from some of our favorite characters in The Last Kingdom. We’ll have to see what else is shared before season 5 finally premieres.
