‘The Last Kingdom’: Fans Weigh in on the ‘Best Fighter’ in the Series
On the hit Netflix series The Last Kingdom, fighting is a way of life. There are a number of extremely talented and capable warriors, and some fans recently decided to weigh in on who they think is the “best fighter” in the series in a Reddit poll. We’ve compiled all the pertinent details below.
The warriors of ‘The Last Kingdom’
The series is focused on warriors during a tumultuous time in English history. The Vikings have started raiding what will one day be known as England. The main character, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) finds himself caught between the Saxons and the Danes almost constantly. He was once a Saxon boy taken to live a life of a Viking, where he adopted their ways and customs. Now a man, he finds himself part of both worlds that keep colliding. He’s an extremely gifted swordsman, which is evident in many episodes throughout the series.
Uhtred is an accomplished warrior, but he isn’t the only one in the series. There are numerous others, including Finan (Mark Rowley). He meets Uhtred, who becomes his best friend and someone he’s sworn to follow, aboard a slave ship while they are held in captivity. They eventually escape when Uhtred’s adoptive brother, Ragnar the Younger (Tobias Santelmann) rescues them. Uhtred and Finan seem inseparable from then on. Finan is also a talented swordsman and fighter, and he always seems to be a part of Uhtred’s latest scheme.
Ragnar the Younger is another brave fighter in The Last Kingdom. He’s Uhtred’s brother, after his father took Uhtred into his home and raised him as a Viking. He has amassed a large number of warriors who are loyal to him, and he’s respected by all. But that doesn’t seem to stop his death when he is killed while sleeping in bed. Aethelwold (Harry McEntire) stabs him to death, and it’s an extremely shocking and terrible blow to fans at home, who love Ragnar.
In the series, Ubba (Rune Temte) is extremely well-respected because he is a son of Ragnar Lothbrok. He has a large army of followers, and he isn’t afraid to fight when he needs to. He’s bold, but that leads to his downfall when he challenges Uhtred. They fight, but Uhtred cuts Ubbe at the ankles, and kills him. However, according to the show’s Fandom page, Uhtred puts an axe in Ubba’s hand to ensure he will go to Valhalla.
Steapa (Adrian Bouchet) is an another swordsman in the series, and the one in charge of King Alfred’s (David Dawson) personal guards. He’s killed in battle while trying to protect King Edward (Timothy Innes).
Leofric (Adrian Bower) is also on the list, who served King Alfred. He was extremely skilled, and a good friend to Uhtred. He was also killed in battle, and dies early on in the series.
Fans weigh in on the ‘best fighter’ in the series
In a Reddit poll, Fans of the series voted on the “best fighter” in the show. 191 people took part in the poll, and not surprisingly, Uhtred comes out on top with 101 votes. Finan comes in second as the most accomplished fighter with 31 votes. Leofric scored 20 votes, while Steapa received 19. Ragnar and Ubba were tied for the last place with 10 votes each.
Uhtred is considered the “best fighter” among the poll of fans who were sampled. Hopefully, season 5 will include even more warriors for fans to love.
