‘The Last Kingdom’: Fans Weigh in on ‘the Most Gruesome Death’ in the Series

Fans of ‘The Last Kingdom’ weigh in on ‘the most gruesome death’ in the series
A fan titled a Reddit post, “Gruesome deaths” on June 9, 2021. The post continues, “What is your most gruesome death? If I have not included yours, please say in the comments.”
At least 1,500 people voted in the poll, and the choices are, Ragnar the Fearless (Peter Gantzler), Ubba (Rune Temte), Halig (Gerard Kearns), Kjartan (Alexandre Willaume), Thyra (Julia Bache-Wiig), and Aethelred (Toby Regbo).
Thyra is the clear winner of the poll with 522 votes. Next comes her father, Ragnar, with 255 votes. Ubba was next up with 210 votes. Kjartan is close behind with 191 votes. Halig has 165 votes, and Aethelred has 111.
Fans commented with their thoughts
Some fans chose to comment with their own thoughts. A number of fans mentioned Thyra’s death. She was the sister of the main character, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) when he’s adopted by Ragnar. She died by suicide during a fire that she couldn’t escape.
“I still haven’t been able to come back to the show because of how they treated Thyra,” a fan admitted. “It felt too mean.”
Another calls it “so painful and unfair.” “Thyra’s death was so painful and unfair,” a fan said. “After years of suffering and just to be happy for a brief moment, she deserved better.”
Another fan admits to being “very sad” about it. “Thyra made me not watch another episode that day, I was very sad,” they said.
Some fans added in Halig
Halig is also mentioned by some fans, and he was abducted as a slave along with Uhtred. He dies in a terrible way when he’s tied to the outside of the ship as it sails in the ocean, drowning. “Halig’s death was straight torture…” a fan said.
Another fan also named Halig as well. “They are all gruesome deaths,” they said. “Some had it coming (Aethelred, Kjartan and Ubba), others were so unjust killed but the one I can’t get over is poor Halig. Even Thyra’s murder didn’t affect me as his did.”
Other characters are also mentioned
More names were also added in the comments, including Ragnar the Younger (Tobias Santelmann). He is murdered by Aethelwold (Harry McEntire) as he lays sleeping.
“No Ragnar the Younger?” a fan asked. “Ragnar the Fearless met with a horrible end, but I think his son’s death was more gruesome.”
Another fan recalled Steapa’s (Adrian Bouchet) death, which happened in battle, and Iseult’s (Charlie Murphy) death, which occurred at the hands of the Dane Skorpa (Jonas Malmsjö). “Steapa and Iseult definitely got it worse than all of these guys though,” they said.
Other characters named include Ubba, Kjartan, Sven (Ole Christoffer Ertvaag), and Ragnar the Fearless. There are obviously a lot of hard-to-watch deaths in the series The Last Kingdom. However, Thyra’s is considered “the most gruesome” by fans in the Reddit poll.
