Who is Skade?
Skade (Thea Sofie Loch Naess) is a seer and a witch that can see things apparently. Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) first encounters her as the consort of Harald Bloodhair (Ola Rapace). She’s busy mutilating a priest when Uhtred meets her and takes her captive. She curses Uhtred and says she is bound to him now. From the moment fans first laid eyes on Skade, there were haters.
People can’t stand Skade
Viewers of the series aren’t exactly fans of the character Skade. Some people dislike both the role and the portrayal of it. Some even say it’s “ruining” the show for them.
“This is one of my favorite tv shows of all time,” a Reddit user began. “But this character Skade is ruining it. She can’t act and destroys all suspension of disbelief whenever she’s on the screen. One episode in and I’m already despairing.”
Other fans can’t stand Skade and don’t understand why the men are so captivated in the series with her. “As for the seer Skade, I’m so sorry but in my eyes she is just a poisonous, insolent, sinister bloodsucking *****, an instigator parasitizing men’s stupidity and arrogance,” a Reddit user explained. “And I don’t understand how her curse works, because of people’s superstition?”
Viewers dislike her voice
One user describes the voice of Skade just like “nails on a chalkboard.” “The Skade actress has the facial expressions on point, but her voice… It’s just not deep enough to exude the confidence the character is supposed to have,” a Reddit user said. “Nor does it command the respect she gets. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.”
Skade isn’t that great of a seer to some
Another fan brought up a point concerning Skade’s ability to see anything at all. “Skade, at least in the TV show was totally one dimensional and sort of pathetic,” they began. “She’s not even a good seer; she failed to see a bunch of things and aligned herself with the losing party several times.”
Viewers don’t like the actress at all
Some viewers didn’t seem to like the actress or the person she portrayed. “Yeah, she was obnoxious,” another Reddit user agreed. “I think the actor tried too hard to be ‘sexy’ and just had her mouth hanging open all the time.”
It isn’t just the character people aren’t fond of. “The actress is bad,” another user wrote. “I can’t believe that she’s supposed to be wielding irresistible power over all these men.”
Some fans would have preferred an older actress play the part
A number of people mention that the character itself was awkward for a number of reasons. Some suggest maybe an older actress could have done the role more justice.
“I think the character Skade would have been more watchable and effective in the show had it been a bit of an older woman and not a shrill, angsty teenage girl,” a Reddit user explained.
Viewers have spoken and they are definitely not fans of Skade in season 3 of The Last Kingdom.
