‘The Last Kingdom’: See an Official Look at Aelfweard in Season 5
In the popular series The Last Kingdom, fans have gotten to know and love numerous characters, including the main character, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon). With the final season still to come, fans will have even more new characters to get to know. One of those is certainly Aelfweard (Ewan Horrocks). Fans were recently treated to an official and first look at the character ahead of season 5’s release. We have all the details to know about the post.

When fans last saw Aelfweard, he was just a boy. He’s the son to King Edward of Wessex (Timothy Innes) by Aelflaed (Amelia Clarkson), whom he is currently married to. Aelfweard is not Edward’s first son. In fact, Edward has another son from a previous marriage named Aethelstan, and he will also appear in season 5.
On July 26, 2021, fans of the series received an official look at Aelfweard in the upcoming season. In the post, the name of the series is in the upper left corner. Aelfweard can be seen in the middle with a short cut surrounding his face. He’s wearing regal attire in brown as he looks off. At the bottom is a quote from Aelfweard’s grandfather, Lord Aethelhelm (Adrian Schiller).

Lord Aethelhelm has also been seen ahead of the upcoming season. Fans will recall he’s the scheming father of Aelfaed. He has a lot of influence on Wessex, and he isn’t afraid to do the unthinkable to achieve his endgame. He even poisons Lady Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth) in season 4. It’s obvious Aethelhelm is capable of anything to achieve what he desires, and it’s pretty terrifying.
On July 5, the official social media accounts shared an official look at Aethelhelm. The name of the series is in the upper left corner. Aethelhelm is in the middle of the image, and he wears expensive-looking dark-colored robes with a fine clasp. He has a beard, and his mouth is also half open. At the bottom of the image is a quote: “’I have learned things in my life that you do not know.’ – Aethelhelm.”

It’s always great seeing these official looks at the characters in the upcoming season 5 of The Last Kingdom. It will be nice when we can finally see these characters on-screen. We’ll have to see what else is shared before the series returns for the final season. Although it’s sad the series is ending, fans can always rewatch episodes to relive every moment.
