‘The Lost City’: Daniel Radcliffe Reveals 1 Scene ‘Destroyed the Set’
Paramount‘s The Lost City pits Daniel Radcliffe against Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum in a hilarious romantic adventure comedy. While the Harry Potter star loved playing a villain, one scene in The Lost City proved incredibly destructive. Radcliffe opened up about how the filmmakers “destroyed the set” around him and Bullock.
In ‘The Lost City,’ Daniel Radcliffe plays an eccentric billionaire who kidnaps Sandra Bullock’s character
Reclusive romance novelist Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) embarks on a book tour with her cover model, Alan Caprison (Channing Tatum). However, eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) attempts to kidnap her. This leads to the two landing in a jungle adventure straight out of her novels.
The Lost City also stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Patti Harrison, and Brad Pitt.
The first scene that Radcliffe shares with Bullock in The Lost City involves her kidnapping. The Lost City trailer shows a glimpse of this scene where Fairfax is surrounded by tables filled with meat and cheese.
However, when a plane touches down behind them, the fancy setup explodes in what Radcliffe called “a meat and cheese vortex.”
Daniel Radcliffe revealed ‘The Lost City’ special effects employed methods they ‘normally never ’ could use
Daniel Radcliffe appeared on Good Morning America for an interview about The Lost City. GMA host Michael Strahan asked Radcliffe about the scene, and the Harry Potter star revealed how it went down.
“So the end of the first scene that mine and Sandra’s characters have together, these massive doors open at the end of it, and a plane lands behind me,” he recalled. “The room that we’re in is filled with meat and cheese, and then, in the script, it was described as a ‘meat and cheese vortex’ is formed by the plane landing outside, and everything goes crazy.”
Radcliffe said before the filmmakers destroyed the set around Bullock and himself, they saw The Lost City special effects people wheeling in massive fans.
“The special effects guys brought in two fans from outside,” Radcliffe said. “They looked at us very happily and were like, ‘We’re normally never allowed to use these inside.’ And then [they] just destroyed the set with it.”
Filmmakers needed even more fans for the ‘Harry Potter’ actor due to the hot location
While they used giant fans to destroy the set around Daniel Radcliffe and Sandra Bullock, they used other fans to stay cool.
Paramount Pictures shot The Lost City on location in the Dominican Republic. And Radcliffe remembered all too well the heat that came with the locale.
“I had a much easier time on this shoot than Sandra and Channing, I hasten to add that. They were in the depths of the jungle the whole time,” Radcliffe noted. “My main thing was [that] I’m a heavily suited character the whole time. And the directors had it in their heads that my guy was just going to be cool and never sweat.”
It proved to be a lot of trouble to cool the Harry Potter star.
“Very quickly, we needed three people with fans on me if we’re gonna achieve this system of not sweating. And then after like three days, it was like ‘Guys, we have to give up on this. This character just has to be allowed to sweat, I’m afraid.’”
Fans can watch The Lost City in theaters starting March 25, 2022.
