Boba Fett is coming to The Mandalorian, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. Temuera Morrison will play the famed bounty hunter in Season 2, but this isn’t the actor’s first Star Wars rodeo. Here’s a breakdown of Morrison’s connection to the franchise.

Who is ‘The Mandalorian’ star Temuera Morrison? 

Morrison is a New Zealand-born actor who started his career as a young teen, when he landed the role of Rangi, in the 1973 movie, Rangi’s Catch. In the ‘80s, he played the recurring role of Sean in the TV drama, Gloss.  He also appeared in a number of other New Zealand-based projects including,  Mauri, The Grasscutter, and Shortland Street, in which he played Dr. Hone Raporta for three seasons. 

The 60-year-old actor made the shift to Hollywood in the ‘90s. He starred in movies like The Island of Dr. Moreau, Six Days, Seven Nights, and Speed 2: Cruise Control. Morrison then went on to appear in notable films like Couples Retreat and The Scorpion King 3

In the 2011 DC superhero movie, Green Lantern, Morrison played the Green Lantern’s (Ryan Reynolds) predecessor, Abin Sur. The actor’s recent movie projects include Aquaman, Dora and the City of Lost Gold, and Moana.

How Temuera Morrison is connected to ‘Star Wars’

In 2002, Morrison officially joined the Star Wars franchise when starred in Episode II:  Attack of the Clones. He was cast as Jango Fett, the famed mercenary who’s genetic template was used to create the Galactic Republic’s Clone Army. The next film in the series, Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, featured Morrison as Commander Cody.

In the 2004 DVD release of The Empire Strikes Back, Morrison actually voiced Boba Fett.  The actor also voiced Jango Fett, Boba Fett, and various Republic officers and troopers in a number of different Star Wars video games.

‘The Mandalorian’ fans were happy to point out his connection

After learning that Morrison will play Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian, fans were quick to point out his Star Wars connection. Many took to social media to celebrate his link to the character. 

“Boba Fett will return to the #StarWars Universe in #TheMandalorian Season 2!” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Temuera Morrison, who originally played Jango Fett, will be taking up the mantle.”

“I love Temuera Morrison,” another fan tweeted. “He played Jango Fett, all clone trooper and Boba Fett. He also voices [sic] original Battlefront 2004-2005, Republic Commando Battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2017.”

“Boba Fett is coming back in The Mandalorian,” one Twitter user shared. “Hopefully he’ll actually do something than just standing around and looking cool — But it’s cool that the man who played as Jango Fett, Temuera Morrison, will play as Boba.”

As of now, it’s unclear how Boba Fett will be introduced to the series. But knowing Morrison is playing the iconic character, fans can rest assured he’s in good hands. Season 2 of The Mandalorian will premiere in November 2020 on Disney+.
