The Mandalorian is currently the hottest commodity in the Star Wars franchise. With the second season currently streaming on Disney+, more fans than ever are tuning in every single week to catch new episodes, and then discussing the events of the series with fellow Star Wars fans.

Recently, some fans took to Reddit to discuss one of the most interesting parallels featured in The Mandalorian — a parallel that recalls memories of the prequel trilogy, as well as the fan-favorite character Jango Fett.

What is ‘The Mandalorian’ about?

The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ in late 2019. The series, which had built up a great deal of anticipation prior to its release, made a splash right out of the gate, with fans raving over the attention to detail and the enthusiastic way that show creator Jon Favreau had recreated the galaxy far, far away.

The show has helped to heal a divided fandom, which had splintered significantly after the release of the sequel trilogy.

The Mandalorian echoes genres that inspired the original Star Wars films — Westerns, anthology shows, samurai movies, and classic sci-fi films. The show follows the exploits of a lone Mandalorian warrior, who works as a bounty hunter, traveling the galaxy to track down criminals and desperate characters.

While the series focuses on the warrior, known as “Mando,” it also features an assortment of recurring characters, including Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and, of course, “The Child,” who might be better known to fans as “Baby Yoda.”

Boba Fett recently made a big appearance in ‘The Mandalorian’

In recent episodes, The Mandalorian has shocked audiences with some fan-favorite characters, who have not appeared in a Star Wars film or series for many years. One of these characters is Boba Fett, a bounty hunter who is possibly one of the most popular characters in the entire Star Wars franchise.

Fett first appeared when he was a child in the Star Wars prequel films, and is one of the most important supporting characters in the original franchise, being the bounty hunter responsible for hunting down Han Solo and delivering him, in carbonite, to gangster Jabba the Hutt.

By the time he appears in The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison, is a much older version of the man known to fans, a seasoned survivor who has been through hell and back. Ultimately, he ends up working with Mando to track down Grogu after he is kidnapped by shadowy Imperial forces.

One thing that fans noticed right away when Boba Fett appeared on The Mandalorian is that the bounty hunter seems to have established a working relationship with Fennec Shand, a deadly assassin played by Ming-Na Wen. This provides an interesting parallel between the relationship between Fett’s father, Jango Fett, and the bounty hunter Zam Wesell.

Fans recently took to Reddit to discuss, with the original poster stating “I may be looking too deep into things but the professional relationship between Boba and and Fennec looks to me to be somewhat similar to that of Jango and Zam.”

“It is an interesting parallel, and I’m sure that it’s probably on Boba’s mind,” one fan posted. “If Zam and Jango had any sort of friendship, then Boba might very well have had some experience with Zam personally, so the thought might have occurred to him.” Another fan raved about the pairing, writing “That’s a good connection! There might be something there. Would actually love to see them keep on partnering up in the future.”

Future episodes of The Mandalorian could help to shed some light on whether showrunners had this parallel in mind when they created the partnership, or if it is merely a fun coincidence.
