During a 1999 interview with E! “They always want you to prove yourself over and over again,” Jones added. “Once you touch the hearts of the Americans, it stays with them.” He said he continued to reap the benefits from being a member of The Monkees.
The Monkees’ Davy Jones said he could sing ‘Daydream Believer’ better than anyone even though Anne Murray covered it
Jones said his performances of “Daydream Believer,” a Monkees hit that Anne Murray covered, continued to bring fans joy. “I mean I’ve been asked to get up in karaoke bars you know and I get up there and yeah I’ve sung ‘Daydream Believer’ because it pleases the 12 or 15 people that are there,” he said. “Why shouldn’t I?”
Even though Murray covered “Daydream Believer,” Jones said he was better at singing the song than anyone else. “I sing it better than anybody else,” he said. “I’ll give them the best. I’m the one that did it first you know. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 10 people or 10,000 people. My performance is the same. I put it right out there, you know, like everything you know.”
