The holiday season is here and for many people that means watching Christmas-themed episodes of TV. For fans of The O.C., the early 2000s drama about teens living in Newport Beach, California, December means watching the TV show’s Chrismukkah episodes. On the air from 2003 – 2007, each one of The O.C.’s four seasons has a Chrismukkah episode but how do they rank?

Even Seth Cohen (Adam Brody), Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson), Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton), and Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) going Christmas tree shopping couldn’t save this episode.

Originally airing on Dec. 15, 2005, The O.C.’s Season 3 Chrismukkah episode takes last place on IMDb. 296 people rated the episode, giving it 7.7 stars out of 10.

Seth, Summer, Ryan, and Marissa organize a Bar Mitz-vahkkah for Ryan with all the proceeds going to Johnny (Ryan Donowho). The episode has drama — Johnny almost robbing a store — and Summer and Marissa singing Christmas carols.

‘The O.C.’ Season 2 Episode 6: ‘The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn’t’

Originally airing on Dec. 16, 2004, The O.C. Season 2 Chrismukkah episode takes third place. 380 IMDb users voted, awarding it an average score of 8.6 stars out of 10.

This time it’s not the teens on the show who are providing the holiday drama but the adults. Caleb Nichol (Alan Dale), Kirsten Cohen’s (Kelly Rowan) father and Seth’s grandfather, reveals he had an affair that resulted in the birth of Lindsay (Shannon Lucio).

Upset by the news, Seth says Chrismukkah should be canceled. But Summer isn’t having it. She saves the holiday and includes Lindsay in the Cohen family tradition of Chrismukkah.

‘The O.C.’ Season 1 Episode 13: ‘The Best Chrismukkah Ever’ (Tie)

The O.C.’s first Chrismukkah episode originally aired on Dec. 3, 2003. Seth explains the mash-up of Christmas and Hanukkah to Ryan during his first holiday season with the Cohen family. It also involves Seth wrapping up identical gifts for his parents and Marissa shoplifting from South Coast Plaza.

‘The O.C.’ Season 4 Episode 7: ‘The Chrismukk-huh?’ (Tie)

In an It’s a Wonderful Life-type episode, Taylor Townsend (Autumn Reeser) and Ryan are stuck in an alternate universe after a fall. They discover they are in a world where Ryan never came to Newport Beach, California. And everyone is different because of it.

Originally airing on Dec. 14, 2006, The Chrismukk-huh? is tied with The Best Chrismukkah Ever as the show’s highest rated holiday episode with 8.7 stars out of 10.

At the time of publication, The O.C. Seasons 1 – 4 are streaming on HBO Max.
