The Office creator Greg Daniels once explained how there was no possibility of a reunion or reboot of the iconic show, but now he’s changing his tune. Daniels has softened on the idea of revisiting the Dunder Mifflin characters, telling E! News that, while nothing is planned, a reunion isn’t so much out of the question anymore.

‘The Office’ creator said a reboot wouldn’t happen

The Office creator previously said he didn’t think a reboot was in the cards because of the way the series ended.

“Well, what do you think? What’s your vision of what it would be? ‘Cause to me, if it was only half the characters and you tried to recreate the set, but there was only half the characters in there, it would be a bit sad, you know?,” he told E! News in 2020.

Daniels continued, “We got a chance to end it on our own terms, and in the ending we saw the future for a lot of different people, and they were all going in different directions.”

Daniels did admit there might be a way to revisit the characters in some way but wasn’t sold on a reboot. “I can imagine there are various events that would reunite them, so we could just kind of catch up with what’s going on,” he said.

Daniels continued, “But I think when people start talking about rebooting the show, I think what they have in mind is something similar to Will & Grace where they just get everybody back together and make more episodes…”

“I mean, it’s sort of like not taking into account our ending, but I also don’t feel like we’d ever be able to get all the actors back together in the same room when they’re all doing different things…,” he noted.

“But I don’t know. I just feel like I don’t want to do like a less — like the crappy version of it, and not while everybody is starting the show over again the moment that they finish season nine,” Daniels added.

Greg Daniels said an ‘Office’ reunion is possible

The Office cast might reunite again, according to Daniels, who told E! News that the timing is better now.

“I think it’s probably more likely now that the show is on Peacock, but no plans right now,” Daniels told E! News. “But people are more open to it now it seems like.”

Daniels shared what fans might see if the reunion finally happens. “I think the issue is what is left to say about the characters,” he said. “There’s been talk of maybe a Friends-style reunion kind of thing. I don’t know, it’s still pretty vague.”

“The weird thing about that is when we ended it, we jumped forward a year and a lot of them aren’t working there anymore,” he continued. “Jim and Pam live in Texas now and so does Darryl. But it would be fun to go find some lost episodes and shoot them as if they were back in 2010 or something.”
