‘The Office’: Jenna Fischer Said These Hilarious Scenes Were Her ‘Favorite to Shoot’

Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey said they loved filming The Office Party Planning Committee scenes so much. While discussing the Goodbye, Toby episode on the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and Kinsey recalled shooting the party planning scene with Steve Carell and how Phyllis struggled with leading the planning.

The Office cast had plenty of fond memories from their time on the show, but Jenna Fischer can easily point to the hilarious scenes that were her “favorite to shoot.” During an episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer shared how the Party Planning Committee meetings were always a good time.

‘The Office’ ‘Goodbye, Toby’ episode involves a big party

During the April 28 episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and her co-host Angela Kinsey discussed The Office Season 4 episode “Goodbye, Toby.”

In the episode, Toby Flenderson is leaving Dunder Mifflin for a new adventure in Costa Rica. Michael Scott is thrilled to see Toby go and wants the Party Planning Committee to throw a big celebratory send-off.

Kinsey and Fischer shared their fondness for doing these scenes. “I loved every minute of this scene,” Kinsey said.

“I loved every minute of doing it,” Fischer echoed. “I loved every minute of watching it.”

The committee doesn’t have much going on for Toby’s goodbye party besides a cake and slideshow that features two photos of Toby. Michael wants something much bigger and since there’s no money in the budget, he pulls cash out of his shoe to pay for it.

“Michael explains every year his grandma sends him $50 for his birthday, but lately she’s been sending him about nine or 10 checks a year,” Fischer explained. “He was saving for a motorcycle, but he thinks this is what he wants to spend his money on.”

“Michael starts listing all of these ridiculous things he wants at this party,” Kinsey noted. “He says he wants to feel like he’s flying through the air without this ugly weight holding him down. He wants an anti-gravity machine.”

“You know what? Angela has had it. She has had it,” Kinsey added. ‘She said she doesn’t want his foot money.”

When Kinsey recalled how fun that scene was, Fischer shared, “Oh, my gosh. We loved these scenes with Steve and the Party Planning Committee. They are truly some of my favorite to shoot.”

According to Kinsey, the scenes “didn’t feel like work” because of how fun they were. “I just couldn’t wait. And my biggest goal was just to not laugh so that we could get some usable footage,” she said.

Phyllis struggles with planning such a huge party

In the scene, Michael puts Phyllis in charge of planning the party when Angela objects to his over-the-top requests.

Kinsey shared that things don’t go well, however. “Phyllis is trying to find an antigravity machine,” she explained. “So far, she’s only found someone who can connect her to anti-depressants. I am telling you … Phyllis is about to break when the lady on the phone says antidepressants. You can see her starting to laugh.”

Later, Phyllis approaches Angela for assistance with planning the party and Angela isn’t helpful. When Phyllis asks her for a list of the vendors, Angela tells her, “I shredded it.”

Phyllis retaliates by “accidentally” knocking papers off of Angela’s desk.
