‘The Office’: Jenna Fischer Thinks Michael Scott Had a Crush on Pam
The Office fans knew that Jim and Pam were destined to end up together, but was there a possibility that Michael Scott and Pam could have dated? Jenna Fischer, who played Pam, thinks that Michael definitely had a crush on her character.
‘The Office’: Michael Scott seemed to have a crush on Pam in 1 deleted scene
During a December 2019 Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and Angela Kinsey discussed the “Sexual Harassment” episode and the hosts agreed that Michael seemed to be crushing on Pam a little bit.
Fischer shared a deleted scene where Michael set up a hypothetical romantic situation involving Pam.
“Michael says, ‘Alright. Take for example, Pam and I are dating.’ And I say, ‘That would never happen,’” Fischer explained. “He goes, ‘No, it’s happening. Pam and I are dating.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m engaged.’ He’s like, ‘Roy died.’ And I’m like, ‘Even still.’ And he’s like, ‘Then I would kill you.’ He’s like, ‘Now Roy and Pam are both dead. Look at what sexual harassment seminar got us.’”
“And then just Michael, just like really pushing this like, hypothetical situation where he and Pam are dating,” she continued. “And that comes up every once in a while. Every once in a while.”
“There’s a little thing where Pam has to deal with Michael’s hypothetical that there is a world where maybe they’re dating,” she added.
Fischer and Kinsey agreed that Michael might have wanted a relationship with Pam. “Oh, there was clearly a time he had a crush on you,” Kinsey said. “And finally just gave up.”
Fischer agreed, saying, “I guess so!”
Michael Scott tried to kiss Pam
In The Office Season 3 “Diwali” episode, Michael proposes to his girlfriend Carol, who turns him down and leaves the party. When Michael is talking with Pam later, he mistakes her kindness for a romantic moment and leans in to kiss her.
During the July 1, 2020 episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and Kinsey discussed the cringey moment.
“Michael tries to relate to her,” Fischer explained. “He’s like ‘Wow, they’re both victims of broken engagements,’” however Pam said he wasn’t engaged because his girlfriend didn’t accept his proposal.
“She tries to bond with Michael and of course, he does that thing … where he just takes it one step too far and he starts to lean in like he’s going to kiss her,” Fischer continued.
Pam asks what he’s doing and Michael asks the same of her. “I’m rejecting your … kiss,” she tells him.
Fischer noted, “I was so excited to do that scene because I remember staying late that evening and shooting outside… it was one of those warm summer evenings in Los Angeles, they’re the best.”
“It’s one of my fondest memories from shooting the show because I got Steve all to myself. It was just us, doing the scene, getting it just perfect,” she added. “It felt like we had all the time in the world, there was no rush. I just absolutely loved it.”
