Before Jim and Pam got married in The Office wedding episode, Pam had a moment where she started to fall apart. Jim consoled Pam after her veil ripped and sweetly cut his tie to prove how little it mattered. Jenna Fischer shared how there was one small mistake in the scene — and it’s likely a lot of fans missed it.

During the Feb. 16 episode of the Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and Angela Kinsey explored The Office “Niagara” episode. Jim and Pam’s wedding episode had comedic moments but also touching scenes, including one that took place after Pam ripped her veil.

She calls Jim to come and talk and he sweetly assures her that the veil isn’t a big deal. “And who cares? It’s a stupid veil, right?” he says.

As Pam begins to explain, “This was the one thing I was supposed to be able to control, was this veil…,” Jim cuts his tie.

“There. Now we’re even,” he tells her.

They run off and get married on the Maid of the Mist boat while their confused guests wait at the church. When Jim and Pam return, they have the church ceremony. As some of their family and friends dance down the aisle, intercut scenes show they already tied the knot.

Fans likely missed that John Krasinski’s tie was already cut in the scene

Fischer gave some behind-the-scenes insight into filming the scene with John Krasinski and pointed out a mistake you might have missed.

“Well, it’s in this scene where Jim is going to try to make things better by cutting his tie to kind of prove to Pam that this day can be perfect without everything being perfect,” Fischer explained.

She continued, “We did a lot of takes of this. We wanted to get it just right. We ended up doing like seven takes of this scene, but we ran out of ties. We didn’t have a ton of ties.”

They found a way to work around the wardrobe issue, however. “And so what we did was John would snip just the bottom of the tie,” she explained. “And then on the next take, he would go more to the middle.”

In the take that aired in the episode, Fischer said, “You can see that the bottom of his tie is already cut off.”

She added, “It goes by really fast. But if you pause it, you can tell.”

Jenna Fischer called the scene ‘intense’

Fischer also explained how filming the scene was very emotional and “intense.”

“When Jim gets to Pam’s room, she’s totally crying,” Fischer explained. “Like, she tore her veil. She thinks she looks terrible because she got no sleep. She’s five months pregnant…”

The actor noted, “She feels like, I don’t know, this day is just not going how she wanted.”

Fischer said she wanted to really deliver Pam’s emotion. “I remember I had to really work myself up because I wanted this emotion to feel really genuine,” she explained. “And I mean, we filmed the scene so many times. I feel like I was crying for like two hours.”

She added, “It was like, I had a headache afterward. Like, it was a really intense day of acting for me.”
