It’s been almost 10 years since The Office ended. While it was sad to say goodbye to the employees of Dunder Mifflin after nine seasons, the show managed to wrap everything up well without becoming tiresome. However, The Office stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey said that the show could have been on for two more seasons, but it would have been a mistake.

‘The Office’ is still one of the most popular shows even after ending almost 10 years ago

The Office is considered by many to be one of the best comedy sitcoms of all time and continues to be one of the most popular shows. It was constantly one of the most-streamed shows on Netflix and continues to do the same on Peacock.

The ending of the series featured the cast attending the documentary’s release along with Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela’s wedding. It managed to wrap up each character’s storyline in a way that was satisfying to many fans. It may have been for the best that the show ended there because many of the cast members were leaving either way.

‘The Office’ stars say that the show could have gone on for 2 more seasons

Fischer and Kinsey said that producer Greg Daniels told the cast that NBC offered to pick up the series for two more seasons. These details are shared by Fischer and Kinsey in their upcoming book, The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There

The two actors said that the cast as a whole decided to end things on a season 9 as many of the central cast was leaving. Many of the main writers, including Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak, had already left the show and many cast members’ contracts were up. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fischer and Kinsey said it would have felt “sad” and “wrong” to keep going.

“I mean, the idea of slowly kind of losing people,” Fischer says, “it just felt like, I don’t know. It just felt sad and wrong.”

“It felt wrong,” Kinsey added. “It felt wrong and like it would just ruin the [Office] world to slowly make up excuses of why people are leaving. One of the things I loved and we all got excited about was being able to know what the end was.”

Kinsey continues to say that Daniels allowed the cast members to pitch ideas for how their storylines should end. Fischer shared that she and co-star John Krasinski were both heavily involved in deciding the direction of Jim (Krasinski) and Pam’s (Fischer) relationship

Steve Carell left the series after season 7

For many fans of The Office, the series was never the same after Carell left at the end of season 7. Carell’s portrayal of Michael Scott was one of the best aspects of the series and his comedic talents were noticeably absent going forward. Once Carell left, then several other cast members either left or started appearing less frequently, which includes Ed Helms in season 9.

While the last two seasons of The Office aren’t bad, they definitely don’t feel the same without Carell. The Office is currently streaming on Peacock.
