‘The Office’: Which Stars of the Show Are Still Friends Today?
The Office had a sprawling cast portraying the employees of Dunder Mifflin paper company. At work, the characters didn’t always get along. It wouldn’t be very funny if they did. In real life, many of the Office stars remain friends, even seven years after the show ended.
Kate Flannery and Andy Buckly spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet over Zoom about their roles on The Office. Both listed the people who remain close since filming the show. All nine seasons of The Office are now available to stream on Peacock.
‘The Office’ was more harmonious than the fictional Dunder Mifflin
For nine years, the cast of The Office worked together and you never heard any reports of drama. Once the show ended, the cast no longer saw each other every day, but they haven’t forgotten each other.
“Sometimes there’s lapse but we’re like a family,” Flannery said. “Nine seasons together and it was a really drama free cast in general.”
These ‘The Office’ stars still see each other
Flannery played Meredith on the show. She’s kept in touch with other cast members from nearby cubicles and even one from the warehouse.
“I’ve been in touch pretty much with everybody,” Flannery said. “We don’t see each other as much but I speak to Angela [Kinsey] regularly. I just talked to Craig Robinson the other day and Oscar [Nuñez] and Creed [Bratton]. There’s a lot of us, Andy Buckley, I just talked to Rainn [Wilson] last month.”
Buckley, who guest starred as CFO David Wallace, confirmed he’s in touch with Flannery, as well as many other The Office favorites.
“Certainly if I see anybody, we’re friendly but who am I in contact with regularly?” Buckley said. “Kate Flannery, I talk to her a fair amount and [Brian] Baumgartener, our fine accountant Kevin Malone, I see him from time to time. I used to see Steve [Carell] and Jenna [Fischer] and Angela. I bumped into Mindy [Kaling] and BJ [Novak] four days ago and I hadn’t seen them in a couple years..”
Buckley also reunited with The Office costar Zach Woods on the HBO series Avenue 5.
“And I see Zach,” Buckley said. “What am I saying? I’m working with Zach Woods right now. The last couple of years we’ve been working on a show.”
Andy Buckley keeps in touch with the writers too
There was more to The Office than just the cast, too. The cast would become close with the writers and remained so after they stopped giving the actors words to say. Buckley knew writer Warren Lieberstein outside of The Office, through their children.
“Our kids were at the same elementary school for a while but we moved,” Buckley said before joking, “We got kicked out. They said, ‘No, get out of here.’ No, we’ve moved on.”
