‘The Other Two’: Season 2 Trailer Shows Pat as the Family’s New Star
Two years after the season 1 finale of the critically acclaimed series The Other Two, the streaming giant HBO Max has released a trailer for the upcoming second season. After a long wait, fans can finally dive back into the lives of the Dubek family.
‘The Other Two’ Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger
The first season of The Other Two follows Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Heléne Yorke) as they try to navigate their younger brother Chase’s (Case Walker) meteoric rise as a pop star. Brooke and Cary, both at low points in their lives, are stunned by their brother’s success.
As the season progresses, however, Chase’s career gives a boost to both Cary and Brooke. Cary, a struggling actor, begins to get recognized after Chase releases a single entitled “My Brother is Gay and That’s Okay!” Brooke finds purpose as Chase’s quasi-manager.
At the end of the season, Cary and Brooke are on the precipice of major success. Netflix wants to do a movie starring Cary and Chase, and Streeter (Ken Marino) offers Brooke a job as Chase’s assistant manager. Then, everything falls apart.
After a disastrous performance at the VMA’s, Chase reveals that he wants to quit his singing career to go to college. The decision puts Cary, Brooke, and Streeter’s careers at risk. Their mother, Pat (Molly Shannon), is in a much different position, however. She’s launching her own daytime talk show, The Pat Dubek Show.
The season 2 trailer features Pat’s new show
The trailer for the second season has Pat as the new reigning queen of daytime television. After Chase’s early retirement, her show appears to have picked up a large following. With another famous family member, Cary and Brooke are pushed to the background once again.
HBO Max describes the upcoming season:
With their pop star brother, ChaseDreams (Case Walker), officially entering retirement at the ripe old age of fourteen, Brooke and Cary (Heléne Yorke and Drew Tarver) must now contend with a new famous family member: their 53-year-old mother Pat (Molly Shannon), and her eponymous daytime talk show. Humiliated at being The Other Two yet again, they double down and make it their mission not to be.
The trailer follows their slog toward success. Cary works as a host on an online news show called Age Net Worth Feet and attempts to get picked up by an acting agency that requires him to become a writer. Brooke trolls TikTok and arcades, looking for the next big teen star to represent.
All the while, Pat continues her rise to stardom.
“We’re interested in the idea of the other two feeling so less than, but then also exploring what it actually is like to have more. Is it really a better way to go through life? It has its own downsides. We like exploring that kind of stuff,” co-creator Sarah Schneider told EW.
