Nickelodeon first announced ‘The Patrick Star Show’ in 2020

Following news about the other SpongeBob spinoff, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and its impending arrival, Nickelodeon greenlit a Patrick Star series. The announcement came in August 2020 and drummed up excitement among longtime SpongeBob fans.

At the time, Deadline reported that the series completed some voiceover work, and its format would be similar to a late night talk show. OG voice actor Bill Fagerbakke was cast to play the iconic pink starfish once again, but little else was known so early in the development phase. That’s changed.

Nick released a first look at a clip from the show, and fans are hoping that it delivers.

‘The Patrick Star Show’ will feature Patrick’s family

Viewers are familiar with Patrick’s parents from watching the cartoon for so many years, but they’ll get to know the entire family better. Fans will meet a young adult version of Patrick as well as his 8-year-old baby sister and grandfather in what’s described as a family sitcom. And yes, he does have his own talk show!

According to a press release from Nickelodeon, Tom Wilson and Cree Summer voice Patrick’s parents Cecil and Bunny Star. Summer also plays Squidward’s granny. Here’s the show’s logline:

The Patrick Star Show follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. His little sister, Squidina, works behind the scenes to make sure Patrick’s show is always running smoothly, while his parents, Bunny and Cecil and his grandpa, GrandPat, each support Patrick in their own hilariously absurd ways. The Star family’s unpredictable adventures often inform, integrate, and sometimes even interfere with Patrick’s TV show, but one thing is for sure: his bizarre life always makes for great television.

With this tidbit of information, it makes one wonder how far back Patrick, Squidward, and SpongeBob’s families go in terms of friendships and bloodlines.

‘The Patrick Star Show’ will air on Nickelodeon

Though Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is only available on the Paramount+ streaming platform, The Patrick Star Show is set to air on Nickelodeon. There’s no set date for the series, but season 1 will include 13 episodes that drop in July 2021. Coincidentally, SpongeBob’s birthday is celebrated on July 14.

So far, both spinoffs take fans into these characters’ youthful pasts in Bikini Bottom. But there’s another SpongeBob installment in the works and it’s all about Squidward. Not only is he the ultimate grouch, but he’s also a talented clarinet player, and the new show will highlight that. Fans of all ages should stay tuned to hear more about The Patrick Star Show’s arrival.
