‘The Pioneer Woman’: Ree Drummond’s Croissant French Toast Is an Easy Breakfast
Ree Drummond has an easy hack for delicious French toast — she uses croissants rather than slices of bread. The Pioneer Woman star’s breakfast gets a topping of delicious berry sauce, syrup, and fresh berries.
Ree Drummond’s croissant French toast recipe is an easy breakfast idea
Drummond wrote about her French toast recipe in a 2014 blog post on The Pioneer Woman website. She shared how she wanted “to make something lovely for breakfast” and headed to her refrigerator where she found croissants she planned to use for breakfast sandwiches.
“But since I was in the mood for something a little sweet before I headed to church, I decided to make French toast instead,” she explained.
“I’ll just launch into the recipe now and spare you all the adjectives describing how positively sublime this French toast was … but just trust me on this: you’ll want to make it this week,” Drummond noted. “I absolutely, positively loved it.”
After her step-by-step recipe, she did share a few adjectives about the breakfast. “Just promise me you’ll try this soon! Its exquisite, drippy, delectable deliciousness will render you speechless,” she wrote. “And rapturous. And euphoric.”
She added, “Okay, so I used an adjective or two. Or six. But after you try one bite, you’ll see what I mean.”
How to make Ree Drummond’s croissant French toast
Drummond demonstrated how to make the croissant French toast recipe on an episode of The Pioneer Woman, where she called it “the most incredible super-fast breakfast.”
“I’m always looking for really quick, really easy recipes to make, not just for dinner but also for lunch, snacks, and breakfast, of course,” she explained. Drummond said she was making one of her “very favorite breakfasts, croissant French toast.”
In a bowl, Drummond whisked together eggs, half and half, vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon. “I first made this French toast a while ago when I didn’t have any bread,” she explained. “I only had some croissants in my fridge that I hadn’t used. I’m telling you what, if you haven’t made French toast with croissants, you’re missing out. It is so delicious.”
She melted butter in a nonstick skillet and split the croissants down the middle. Drummond dunked the croissants into the egg mixture. “I don’t want to get them too, too soggy,” she shared as she quickly dipped them and placed the croissants cut-side down in the skillet.
The Pioneer Woman star cooked the French toast over medium-low heat for a few minutes on the first side, then flipped and let the second side cook for a few more minutes.
‘The Pioneer Woman’ star gives her easy breakfast a fruity topping
Drummond made an easy blackberry syrup to serve with the French toast by combining blackberries and sugar in a pan and bringing it to a gentle boil. “We’ll use regular maple syrup too but the blackberry syrup really sends it over the top and it makes it extra gorgeous,” she said.
The Food Network host made a slurry by combining cornstarch and water then added it to the blackberry mixture to thicken it.
To serve the French toast, Drummond plated it and topped the decadent breakfast with butter, syrup, blackberry syrup, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries.
